Ozzy Osbourne, the Black Sabbath star who was presented the Rolling Stone UK Icon Award recently, has confessed how it baffles him that he is still alive today.

He feels he should have passed away years back alongside some of his former drinking companions. The 74-year-old has endured a fight with alcohol and drugs throughout his life.

Reflecting on life, Ozzy recalled fond memories of his past friends, such as Motorhead frontman Lemmy and UFO bassist Pete Way. During the eighties, Ozzy had the pleasure of performing with Pete Way in numerous venues.

Ozzy said via the Daily Mail, "I've been doing a lot of reflection while I've been laid up, and all my drinking partners, I've realized they're all f---ing dead."

"I should have been dead before loads of them. Why am I the last man standing? Sometimes I look in the ¬mirror and go, 'Why the f--k did you make it?"

He went on to say, "I should have been dead a thousand times. I've had my stomach pumped. God knows how many times."

Ozzy Osbourne Retiring

This year, Ozzy announced that he plans to retire from touring. The British star has sold over 100 million albums throughout his long and successful musical career.

He was diagnosed with a mild form of Parkinson's in 2003, though it wasn't until recently that the news became public. What took its toll on him were the metal rods that dislodged from his back after taking a fall in 2019.

Following a devastating quad bike accident at his Buckinghamshire home in 2003, rods were inserted into his body. This second surgery caused severe complications and nearly left him immobile.

He told Rolling Stone UK magazine: "The second surgery went drastically wrong and virtually left me crippled."

"I'd hoped the treatments would take care of it, but after the third one, they put a rod in my spine. An examination revealed a tumor had taken up residence in one of my vertebrae, so they had to do more work than originally thought. It's been really painful, and my balance is all messed up now."
