David LaChapelle's Artistic Power

Known for capturing the essence of legendary figures like David Bowie, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Pamela Anderson, and Kanye West, David's photographic talent is celebrated.

One of his memorable collaborations was with the "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" singer, showcasing his skills by capturing John's essence for the Interview magazine cover in 1998.

In the photographer's eyes, Elton John has been a source of inspiration since his early years. Reminiscing about his childhood, David fondly remembers having the singer's posters adorning his bedroom walls.

"I was Christian, but they were condemning gay people in the Bible belt, gay... In fifth grade, I started going through puberty. I didn't feel like I fit in or would be accepted."

Friendship Since The Start

During their interview shoot, they formed a friendship, and David went on to create cover art for Elton's "One Night Only" album in 2000.

Later, in 2004, he also crafted stage projections for John's residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, titled "The Red Piano."

As a child, Elton served as an influential figure in his life, and David found solace because there was a place for him in the world.

"He said I could do whatever I want and gave me full creative control," David shared. "He said, 'just go do it.'"

In preparation for Elton John's upcoming album, David LaChapelle immerses himself in the music, seeking inspiration.

Rather than sticking to a repetitive or derivative approach, he takes a fresh perspective, drawing upon his past photographs and the essence of each individual and their songs.
