  • Porter Robinson chooses Astralwerks (home of Deadmau5) as label for much-hyped debut album

    One of the most hyped-names in EDM music, or any music for that matter, has finally found a home label. In fact, house producer Porter Robinson ended up choosing Astralwerks to avoid the focus on EDM.
  • "John Lennon: The Bermuda Tapes” app now available

    Now this is a music experience app you haven't seen. You can simulate John Lennon's intimate six-day ocean voyage to Bermuda for $4.99. "John Lennon: The Bermuda Tapes" has music, photos, interviews and other interactive features, according to the Associated Press. On this trip Lennon took 6 months before he died, he was inspired to make new music again. Yoko Ono says that the experience he had on the trip "opened up a kind of frozen part of his soul and he started creating."

    The Latin Grammys will broadcast from the Mandalay Bay resort in Las Vegas in one week, November 21. The awards ceremony, the biggest in the wide field of Latin music, offers an appropriately wide range of prizes. Performers across a number of genres will vie for 48 awards. The best part, however, is that the night's biggest prizes—Record of The Year, Song of The Year, and Album of The Year—each come with ten nominees, like the Oscar for Best Film, making for more excitement and suspense than the "regular" Grammys. Music Times is going to be so bold as to offer our predictions for each prize.

    If you first heard Angel Olsen's full-length Halfway Home last year, it's probably still haunting you in the best way possible. Olsen warms up with achingly honest lyrics that tremble out of her-then holds back with a cooler, controlled voice. It's a trademark style as distinct as Joni Mitchell's voice. Olsen has just announced a new album due out February 18th, 2014, Burn Your Fire for No Witness. It will be under the indie rock label Jagjaguwar. A sneak peek at one of the new 11 songs, "Forgiven/Forgotten" already shows that she is going for more of a rock vibe than previous folk songs.

    Paul McCartney has reached out to Russian President Vladimir Putin in a formal letter to release the 28 activists and two journalists who were arrested after staging a protest at a Russian oil-drilling platform in the Arctic Ocean.
  • Rilo Kiley release new music video 'Emotional' from compilation album 'Rkives' [WATCH]

    Rilo Kiley may have broken up two years ago, but that doesn't mean the band can't still release more music videos. Today (Nov. 14), the band debuted the official visual for "Emotional," a track off their B-sides, rarities and unreleased materials compilation Rkives over at Rolling Stone.

  • Damon Albarn, Brian Eno and Africa Express produce 'Maison Des Jeunes' showcasing music of Mali

    In case you haven't heard it from Lord Jamar recently, the roots of just about all Western music lies somewhere in Africa. That being said, listening to music produced by contemporary African performers can be an exciting shift from what you hear on typical Western radio. THAT being said, when the two sides combine, you get a musical supernova of sorts. Africa Express's forthcoming album Maison Des Jeunes promises to live up to our obviously excited description.
  • Big Kenny (of Big & Rich) to launch Electro Shine, an EDM-inspired musical circus, at top festivals

    Big Kenny (one half of the Big & Rich duo) has plans to bring a new musical experience called Electro Shine to next years' top festivals. According to Billboard, Electro Shine is a fusion of EDM beats and traditional instruments — a trend that is seeing success in the EDM world (think Avicci's "Wake Me Up").
  • Justin Bieber apologizes on Twitter after footage of 'Bad Day' singer mistreating Argentine appears online [VIDEO]

    Justin Bieber's Believe Tour has found itself in yet another spot of controversy. Yesterday (Nov. 13), footage hit the web of Bieber mistreating the Argentine flag and went viral, causing outrage in the South American country and even making his most dedicated Beliebers feel uncomfortable. Now, Bieber has apologized on Twitter for the incident, insisting he meant no disrespect.
