In the music industry today, it doesn't matter whether a record was recently released or beloved by many for decades in order for it to dominate the list of top-selling albums lists. From Taylor Swift to Michael Jackson, take a look at the most recent chart that determines which albums sell the most.

According to Billboard's Top Album Sales chart as of January 28, 2023, Taylor Swift retains her number one spot with her chart-dominating record, "Midnights." Originally released in October and has been in the charts for over 13 weeks now, the musician's recent project continues to break record sales ahead of the pop star's "The Eras" tour.

In a previous statement ahead of the record's release, Swift described "Midnights" as a collection of music that she wrote in the middle of the night "through terrors and sweet dreams."

Some of the popular songs being streamed by fans online are "Anti-Hero," "Midnight Rain," "Bejeweled," and "Lavender Haze," which recently got a music video treatment.

For the number two spot, Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" went from being fifth place to second this week. The album has been in the charts for a whopping 332 weeks.

The iconic band's 11th studio album was originally released in 1977 via Warner Bros. Records. All songwriters including Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks, and Lindsey Buckingham reportedly worked separately when they write music but would often get together to share the meanings of their tracks.

The common denominator between the songs was it revolved around the idea of separation.

For the third and fourth placements, "Ace" by Bob Weir and Obituary's "Dying of Everything" entered the list for the first time. Both records have only spent one week on the charts. "Ace" was released in 1972 while Obituary's record was released this year.

Michael Jackson got the fifth spot with his album, "Thriller," originally released in 1982. The record has been in the charts for over 334 weeks now and is amassing newly-found fame thanks to a new generation of listeners.

Even though the album has been out for several decades, it continues to dominate the charts and was able to sell a whopping 70 million copies.

Produced by Quincy Jones, the record is considered to be one of the most relevant albums of all time. It amassed several awards, especially at the 1984 Grammys. The project bagged the Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance for a male artist.
