• Wu-Tang Clan's GZA raps to Toronto university students about the big bang theory

    Rappers have made have made speeches to motivate the eager young minds of students before, for example Kanye and then there is now a fellowship at Harvard in honor of Nas. Now Wu-Tang Clan's GZA is doing the same after he made a stop at the University of Toronto to give a guest lecture about 'Consciousness, Creativity and Music'.

    Pitchfork has had a somewhat secondhand influence on the re-popularization of vinyl, namely by promoting the hip bands that have been the major movers in revitalizing the format (we're not judging; we too prefer our music on big 12-inch discs, maybe just for the larger album art). Now Pitchfork is playing a more major role in what we sentimental journalists hope will be the revitalization of print news publications.

  • T.I. and Grand Hustle imprint sign to Columbia Records

    Rapper T.I. had already mentioned that he was looking at labels to put out his forthcoming ninth album as well as sign on his own hip-hop imprint, Grand Hustle Records. The rapper announced on Friday that he and his label would be joining up with Columbia Records. T.I. personally had been signed with Atlantic records since 2003, and his contract ended earlier this year. His last album with the label was Trouble Man: Heavy Is The Head, which came out in December 2012.

    Apparently Grimes isn't vegan enough for New York band DIIV. It all started when Grimes posted on her Tumblr that she loved the new Anchorman themed Ben and Jerry's butterscotch ice cream called Scotchy Scotch Scotch, released to promote the upcoming sequel.

    Carrie Underwood fits into the same boat as Taylor Swift in that she's a country artist that has success appealing to the non-country listening populace (read: our father). That success led NBC into casting her as Maria von Trapp in the live broadcast of The Sound of Music, which will air on December 5. NBC has released a one-minute clip of its star singing the title song from the musical.
