  • Carolyn Menyes' 2013 Playlist: Bear's Den, Lady Gaga, Janelle Monae and More

Music Times, like so many other music publications, was looking to publish a "Best of 2013" playlist. We met to discuss what such a playlist should include, and that's where we ran into trouble. We couldn't agree. Sometimes two of us just couldn't agree on whether the performer was amazing or terrible, and even when we agreed they were amazing, we couldn't agree on what track was most representative of their work.
  • Nicole Oran's 2013 Playlist: Jay Z, Daft Punk and Savages

Music Times, like so many other music publications, was looking to publish a "Best of 2013" playlist. We met to discuss what such a playlist should include, and that's where we ran into trouble. We couldn't agree. Sometimes two of us just couldn't agree on whether the performer was amazing or terrible, and even when we agreed they were amazing, we couldn't agree on what track was most representative of their work. Hence it was decided that rather than try to agree (a seemingly impossible endeavor), everyone would get their own "favorites of 2013" playlist. We won't argue that these are necessarily the best tracks of the last year, but they're definitely songs that caught our respective attention and caused us to hit 'repeat" over and over and over again.

What about the artists themselves? Rockers Queens of the Stone Age, who released "...Like Clockwork" in June have now revealed their picks for the best 10 albums of the year.
  • Arcade Fire to tour in UK, conveniently close to Glastonbury dates

We can't tell you who's going to be headlining at the Glastonbury music festival this year. But we CAN tell you who won't be playing on Sunday, and in doing so give a pretty strong hint as to who may be headlining on either Friday or Saturday. The band in question, Arcade Fire, confirmed on Monday that it will be playing at Marlay Park in Dublin, Ireland on June 29, the Sunday of Glastonbury weekend.

  • Rolling Stone releases its own Top 50 Albums of The Year list...now Vampire Weekend challenges Kanye West

It just must be the time of the year for announcing one's albums of the year, as Rolling Stone has also released its list of the best 50 for 2013 (Music Times will publish its list December 21). SPIN also published its own list of best records this week, as we reported yesterday. Considering the number of albums released during the year, there was a decent amount shared, relatively, within the Top 5 of both publications.
