• Electric Zoo 2013 Death; Drug Dealer Enters Guilty Plea

    Electric Zoo its return in 2015 after two very tumultuous years that saw the festival get cut short twice. Now it appears the tragedy of 2013 has just about received some closure. The man who sold the bad batch of molly to one festival attendee, Jeffrey Russ, which resulted in his death, has plead guilty on one count of conspiring to distribute narcotics.

    Electric Zoo, despite all of its mishaps and bad fortune, keeps on getting up after all of the haymakers the world throws at it. One has to admire the resiliency that the festival has shown. Even after two years of last minute cancellations, the festival is set to come back in 2015 for its 7th year. Today, it announced the dates for the upcoming festival, taking place as it normally does, over Labor Day weekend, from Sept. 4 to Sept. 6.
  • Electric Zoo Releases '14 Aftermovie [WATCH]

    Despite the third-day cancelation, Made Event's Electric Zoo has released its official 2014 aftermovie for the sixth edition of the New York City dance music festival, according to a press release. Taking place over Labor Day weekend, the festival played host to disc jockeys like David Guetta, Wolfgang Gartner, Nicky Romero, Armin van Buuren, Zedd, Knife Party, Laidback Luke, Danny Tenaglia, Sasha and many more scheduled to play Sunday, Nov. 23, including Jack U, Skrillex and Diplo's duo; Kaskade; Dash Berlin; and Alesso. The video is shorter then the long epics that have become the norm for many dance music festivals like Tomorrowland and Ultra Music Festival. It does not help that one-sixth of the festival was lost due to rain, notably with the most camera-friendly parts at night, but the festival went for the short and sweet aftermovie rather than a "sit down, grab your buddies, get the popcorn and watch this 30 minute video" type of aftermovie.

    Following the alarmingly high number of drug-related deaths at EDM festivals in the past year, New York's Electric Zoo festival is adopting a new approach to curb rampant drug use: a public service announcement. As reported by the Wall Street Journal, concert goers at this year's Electric Zoo on Randall's Island (which takes place Aug. 29-31) will have to watch a two-minute film titled The Molly, named for the drug of choice for many EDM fans, before their wristbands are activated and are allowed access to the festival grounds. The video is part of a new anti-drug campaign called "Come to Life," started by Electric Zoo promoter Made Event. You can check out The Molly below.

    The future of the Electric Zoo festival had somewhat been up in the air ever since it was shut down a day early following the deaths of two participants over Labor Day weekend during 2013. Recent activity on the part of Made Events, the organizer of the EDM-centric music festival, indicate that the company is looking to go ahead with the concerts during 2014.
