• HBO's Vinyl Unveil's Soundtrack Vol. 1 Tracklist, Weekly Release Schedule

    HBO's new show about rock and roll in the 1970s, Vinyl has unveiled the tracklist for the first volume of songs that will appear on the series' soundtrack. In addition to the first batch of music that features the likes of Sturgill Simpson, Ty Taylor, Otis Redding and the show's fictional band Nasty Bits, there will be shorter EPs released weekly with music from each episode.

    Columbia House, the legendary mail order brand, is staging its comeback only a few months after its parent company, Filmed Entertainment, Inc., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, effectively ending the brand's 50-year run of bringing the masses large quantities of albums and later movies for as little as a dollar--or so we thought. Under new ownership, the brand is set to relaunch as a vinyl record delivery service.

Described on the new project's website as "an collaborative ongoing experiment" between the two companies, the Vinyl Marketwatch is like a tongue-in-cheek stock exchange for vinyl aficionados.
  • Discogs Leads Vinyl Boom, Exceeds 43 Million in Sales for 2015

    Discogs, the online vinyl and CD marketplace, celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, the site has shared some propriety information regarding its role within the US vinyl boom with Billboard: so far in 2015 the site has exceeded $43.5 million in sales. To translate that figure into terms we audiophiles prefer, that's 2.5 million records, half a million CDs and 50,000 cassette tapes. Furthermore, as Resident Advisor reports, the figures reflect an industry-wide increase in vinyl sales, with the stats in the US at their highest in 25 years.

    Digital music be damned, vinyl is on a comeback. Plenty of reports published previously in Music Times have shed light on the continuing growth of the vinyl format among music listeners and a new company is looking to take advantage of it, by sending subscribers several records a month in the mail, much like how Netflix previously specialized in sending DVD's through the mail. The company, VNYL, just reached its Kickstarter goal this week.
  • Daft Punk to Re-Release 'Alive 1997,' 'Alive 2007' as Vinyls [TRACKLIST]

    Daft Punk is getting ready to give two of its live albums the vinyl treatment. The "Get Lucky" duo plans to reissue "Alive 1997" and "Alive 2007" as vinyl LPs along with a few extras. According to Modern Vinyl, the "1997" live album was last pressed in 2001, while "2007" was never put out as a vinyl record. The version of "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" on the latter album earned the duo a Grammy in 2009 for Best Dance Recording. Check out the full tracklist below. "1997" was recorded at a live gig in Birmingham, England. "2007" was recorded at a show in the French duo's native Paris. No word on a U.S. release date, but it is slated to drop Dec. 19 in France, Consequence of Sound noted.

    Whole Foods is already the hip place to buy food that's free of cruelty and genetic modification. So the question from a business perspective become, what products does the company try to stock next to appeal to its average customer. The answer seems to be vinyl records. Whole Foods announced this week that it would be stocking a select number of 12-inch LPs in a trial run at five of its California locations.
