Emma Stone's joke about Taylor Swift was not met with laughs, instead, it was received with criticism and backlash.

"I definitely won't make a joke like that again," the "Poor Things" star said, referring to when she jokingly called the "Anti-Hero" hitmaker "an a*****e" at the Golden Globes 2024.

"I saw headlines that really pulled it out of context," the actress continued, before chastising herself, "What a dope!"

Emma Stone Insults Taylor Swift?

According to reports, Stone was referring to when she joked about Swift at the Golden Globes backstage.

"What an a*****e, am I right?" The actress joked in the press room when asked about the singer's appearance at the award ceremony. "I've known her for almost 20 years, so I'm very happy she was there. She was also nominated tonight, so I'm very happy she was there - but what an asshole."

The "Blank Space" singer was also at the Golden Globes as her concert film, "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour," was nominated in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category. The concert film lost to "Barbie."

Meanwhile, the actress was at the Golden Globes because she was also nominated; she won Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for her role as Bella in "Poor Things."

Emma Stone, Taylor Swift's Friendship

Despite what insults the Swifties may have thrown Stone's way, the actress and Swift are close friends.

In fact, Stone was present at the singer's opening show for her "The Eras" tour in Arizona last year.

"I've known her since we were 17 and 18, so she hooked me up, which was very nice 'cause I know those tickets are impossible to get," Stone said about the singer gifting her VIP tickets to the show. "She's a wonderful friend. She blows my mind."

According to People Magazine, Stone and Swift first met at the Young Hollywood Awards in April 2008.

"We met there three years ago, and then I listened to some of her music, and I wrote her an e-mail saying I liked her music, I swear," the actress recalled about the beginning of their friendship. "And then we started talking and hanging out."

In September 2010, Swift attended the premiere of Stone's movie "Easy A," and they have been seen several times after that.

Swift even dedicated a song to the "Spider-Man" star, titled "When Emma Falls In Love," which is included in the vault of "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)."
