American Idol season 22 contestant Payton Riley mesmerized the audience with her own composition, "Fireflies."

Embracing a blend of Christian and country influences, the 15-year-old contestant expressed that the lyrics were a personal creation crafted to navigate through the emotions of heartbreak following her breakup.

Through tearful eyes, Payton delivered the song that ultimately did not sway American Idol judge Katy Perry. The "I Kissed A Girl" rejected Payton's performance, citing her young age and the need for further honing of her skills.

While recognizing Payton's talent, Katy Perry said, "I think you are really talented. You're a really good songwriter."

"And if you're doing this at 15, you are onto something. I would say keep singing. Keep writing," she advised.

Similarly, co-judge Lionel Richie shared his enthusiasm for the promising future of Payton's career, emphasizing the boundless opportunities that lie ahead.

Upon reflection, the R&B crooner suggested, "if you just go away for a hot moment and come back a little bit more tidied up, I think it'll be a lot better for you."

Katy chimed in, declining Payton's suggestion by explaining, "It's just because you're in the growing phase, and I would hate to pull you out prematurely."

The "Dark Horse" singer then proposed, "I'd say try it in three years, at 18, and you'd have a real shot."
