Bruce Springsteen has made history by becoming the first international singer to score the Ivors Academy Fellow honor.

The Ivors with Amazon Music will hold a ceremony in London on May 23 to hand Springsteen his record-breaking award. An Academy Fellow is the highest honor a person can receive from the award-giving body, and Springsteen became the 27th musician to have it under his belt.

In a statement shared by Billboard, Springsteen expressed his excitement after being crowned as the first international songwriter to become an Academy Fellow at The Ivors Academy.

"In addition to recognizing my songwriting, the award stands as a tribute to the fans and friends who have supported me and my work for the last 50 years," he added. "This entire country has made me feel welcome every step of the way. For this, I will always remain deeply appreciative."

According to the Ivors Academy, the prize will recognize Springsteen's "outstanding contribution to the craft of songwriting" and "impact on the UK's cultural landscape."

Chair of The Ivors Academy Tom Gray praised the "Dancing in the Dark" singer and said there was no one more fitting than him to become the first international songwriter to be inducted into the Fellowship.

"Songwriters are powerful storytellers who capture our lives, loves and hardships. Bruce has always told the greatest stories. The Fellowship marks the esteem in which he is held by all those who share his craft," Gray continued.

Bruce Springsteen Is Back!

After facing health setbacks, Springsteen announced his return and the resumption of his previously postponed shows with the E Street Band.

"I think we're approaching [the 2024 World Tour] like it's a new tour," Springsteen said. "There will be some things from last year's tour that will hold over; some of my basic themes of mortality and life. Those things I'm gonna keep set, but I think I'm gonna move around the other parts of the set a lot more. So there'll be a much wider song selection going on."
