Happy April Fools' Day! Just like the rest of us, celebrities also love poking fun at one another.

Emma Roberts's family is no stranger to pranks, but there was one moment she regretted from her childhood -- when she hung up the phone on someone famous because she thought it was a joke.

The Scream Queens actress recently sat down with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos for an interview on their show Live with Mark and Kelly.

In honor of the April 1st tradition, she revealed that she's "always nervous" about being pranked by some of her closest friends and family, but there was one time when she made a big mistake.

She then shared a story of receiving a call from the one and only Britney Spears to greet her on her birthday when she was a kid.

Emma Roberts Hung Up on Britney Spears

Walking down memory lane, the American Horror Story actress recalled that when she was about 8 or 9 years old, her mom, Kelly Cunningham, and aunt Julia Roberts set her up for a phone call with the pop star for her birthday.

"It was my birthday and I think I was 8 or 9, and this was back in the day of landlines... My mom and my aunt handed me the landline and said, 'Someone's on the phone for you.' And I was like, 'Who?'" she said. (via People magazine)

Upon picking up the phone, she remembered hearing Spears telling her happy birthday, but she thought it was a prank.

Since she thought it was a joke planned by her mom and aunt, she hung up the phone and told them, "'Mm-hmm, nice," but she was shocked when they revealed that it really was the singer.

Emma Roberts, Britney Spears Eventually Talked Over the Phone

"I was -- still am -- the biggest Britney Spears fan. I literally started crumbling and I was like, 'Can we get her back on the phone?'" she recalled telling her mom and aunt.

Fortunately, they were able to get Spears back, and they spoke right away.

The actress apologized for what happened but felt "mortified and nervous" as she was only a child at the time.

She laughed about how always being on guard for April Fools' Day jokes made her mess up what would have been an amazing birthday phone call.

"In that moment, I thought I got them. I was like, 'Nice try, everybody. Good prank.'" she added.
