Back in July, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder performed a cover of John Lennon's classic "Imagine" during a solo performance in Portugal, and yesterday Vedder released a recorded version of his cover through iTunes.

The single was released to benefit Heartbeat.fm, an organization that unites Israeli and Palestinian youth through music.

"Heartbeat creates spaces and opportunities for Palestinian and Israeli youth musicians to build critical awareness, respect and trust while harnessing creative, nonviolent tools for self-expression and social change," read the organization's website.

Vedder's interest in Heartbeat.fm should come as no surprise to his fans. As the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was heating up over the summer, Vedder criticized Israel at a London Pearl Jam concert, saying, "They're looking for a reason to go across borders and take over land that doesn't belong to them. They should get the f--- out and mind their own f---ing business."
