In the world of daytime television it takes a special character to stick around for the long haul and General Hospital's Sonny Corinthos is exactly that kind of guy. Luckily, his portrayer, Maurice Bernard recently re-upped his contract with the show and he will be sticking around Port Charles for a few more years.

Apparently, negotiations went on for awhile, long enough for GH to put together a back up story to tell on the off chance that Bernard was going to leave the show. Corinthos has been in prison for the death of AJ Quartermaine which gave execs awhile to figure out which direction this story was going to end up going in based upon Bernard's decision about his future. Now, it's a pretty sure bet that the character will be enjoying his freedom sooner rather than later because Corinthos is truly at his best lurking in the obvious shadows before finally making his presence felt.

Bernard has been with GH since 1993 and aside from taking a year off to regroup all the way back in 1997, he has been a constant fixture. Are you glad to learn that Bernard is going to be sticking around Port Charles for the near future? He plays one of the more complicated characters in daytime. His version of Corinthos is technically a bad guy, but you still can't help but pull for him, especially when he does the right thing, often when it counts the most. Those moments where you catch a glimpse of Corinthos' heart are part of what still makes GH so addictive, don't you think? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
