Ryan Adams and Mandy Moore have filed for divorce after five years of marriage. The split is mutual, according to a joint statement. The "Gimme Something Good" singer and Tangled voice actress were married in 2009 in Savannah, Georgia, and celebrated their five-year anniversary in their new hometown of Los Angeles, Billboard notes.

"Ryan Adams and Mandy Moore have mutually decided to end their marriage of almost six years. It is a respectful, amicable parting of ways. Both Ryan and Mandy ask that the media respect their privacy at this time," a statement released yesterday (Jan. 23) reads.

The rocker, who released his superb, self-titled album in September, got a little defensive when an Australian radio host asked him about Moore. The singer declined to talk about her and hung up the phone when the radio host followed up. Adams doesn't believe in sharing details of his personal life. He will not talk about his rescue cats, his wife or his future children.

"I was really nice about it the first time, and I'm sorry, but I won't repeat myself," he told BuzzFeed after the incident. "The deal is this: I'm a private person and I'll be a gentleman and say I'm not talking about my marriage ever. I'll never talk about it. Ever."

The unlikely couple started dating in 2008, but not much is known about how they met. Over the course of their marriage, they managed to keep a low profile. Adams reportedly worked with Moore on her seventh album, which has yet to be released, and the actress also sang background vocals on her husband's Ashes & Fire and Ryan Adams. Songs like "Stay With Me," "My Wrecking Ball" and "Let Go" from the latter release may have suggested the start of a problem, but that's just speculation.

In August, the singer dropped an EP titled 1984, following that up with the Jacksonville release. He kicked off 2015 with the No Shadow EP, which featured Johnny Depp on guitar.

Adams will appear on Austin City Limits tonight.
