Young Irish blues rockers, The Strypes, stopped by the Late Show with David Letterman last night to perform "What A Shame" off their debut album, last year's Snapshot. Of course, we already know what kind of music gets the 66-year-old host hyped up: high-energy garage rock. So it was no surprise that Letterman freaked out after seeing the four-piece (all old enough to be in high school) nail the track.
Letterman appears to be hyperventilating as he exclaims, "Yeah! How about that!" and "Money!" Good thing they delivered because Letterman had promised them something special. "I'm very excited," Letterman explained. "Before the show I said, 'If this goes well, I'll take you all to play laser tag.'"
Letterman isn't the only one who really digs The Strypes. Both The Guardian and The Telegraph have called these guys the saviors of rock 'n' roll. Even music snob Noel Gallagher has been seen at their gigs as well as Jeff Beck, Dave Grohl, Paul Weller, Roger Daltrey and Miles Kane. NME has named them the No. 1 band to watch, Zane Lowe shortlisted them for Hottest Record of the Year, and Elton John has called them "a breath of fresh air" with a "knowledge of R&B and blues at 16 years of age that I have only amassed in my 65 years." So, yeah, we'd say the Strypes should probably be on your radar.
The boys are currently touring North America with upcoming dates in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
