Lamar Odom's health is improving and his support team of family, friends and fans couldn't be happier. After being in a coma for four days, Odom woke up for the first time on Friday (Oct. 16), according to People Magazine. His awakening wasn't the only thing that helped restore hope in his recovery. Odom reportedly responded to Khloé Kardashian telling him, "I love you," proving his motor skills were still intact.

The 35-year-old former Lakers star nodded and squeezed the hand of his estranged wife after she bent down beside his hospital bed to tell him, "I love you," according to People. This is the first physical response Odom has given since the battle for his life began.

"This is the most positive stuff we've had since it happened," an anonymous source close to Odom told People. "We've been on pins and needles. We've got a little bit of hope now. The CAT scan came back clean, and they're slowing taking him off each machine. He's off dialysis and that looks good. We're hopeful."

Due to the recent developments in Odom's condition, he is no longer in need of certain medical assisted machinery. The father of two has been taken off the ventilator, because he's now capable of breathing on his own, according to E! News.

After being discovered unconscious at Dennis Hof's Love Ranch brothel in Nevada on Tuesday (Oct. 13), Odom was admitted to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. Doctors found traces of drugs in his system, including cocaine and opiates. It was also revealed that Odom took a large amount of herbal Viagra substitutes.

Doctors initially deemed Odom's condition critical, because the multiple strokes he suffered could possibly cause physical and mental impairment. They indicated to his family that the longer he remained unresponsive, the less likely it would be that his brain would function at a normal pace.

"Once he gets out of this tough situation, he will have learned that there's a whole lot of people rooting for him and letting him know they love him," Odom's former youth basketball coach, Gary Charles, said on Friday to People.
