Solange Knowles is named as the Harvard Foundation's Artist of the Year. The singer will be recognized at the March 3 ceremony in Sanders Theater.

Knowles has used her public platform to advocate for justice and fair representation. The 31-year-old singer has also been promoting constructive and empowering political messages throughout her career.

Beyoncé's younger sister is also recognized for her critically acclaimed album Seat at the Table, which was released in 2016.

Solange Knowles's Awards

The "Cranes In the Sky" singer has performed as well in front of former President Barack Obama at the White House. Knowles has invoked themes dealing with a wide range of topics like empowerment, grief, healing, identity, and more.

Previously, Knowles is named as one of Glamour Magazine's Women of 2017, and she also received the prestigious Billboard Impact Award in the same year. The singer gave an inspiring speech when she accepted her Women of 2017 award from the publication.

"When I was about 11 years old, someone told me, 'You've got to shoot for the moon and, even if you miss it, you'll land among the stars.' Well, I wasn't interested in either one. I was interested in the journey there," said Knowles. "We as women are told from the second that we come into our own that we must not only shoot for the moon but hold it in our hands, turn it until the morning, nurture all of its rings... and feel and look like a goddess. That is not my journey."

Solange Knowles, Jay-Z Elevator Feud

Other than her successful career, Knowles also made headlines years ago after she seemingly protected Beyoncé from her husband Jay-Z. A video of Knowles kicking Jay-Z inside the elevator as Beyoncé looked on made headlines in 2014. A source revealed that Jay-Z got a little too close with Rachel Roy, and Knowles was not happy with what she saw.

"At the gala, Rachel was being flirtatious with Jay. Once everyone was at the Boom Boom Room for the after-party, her flirtations were elevated. Beyoncé approached Rachel to let her know the behavior was disrespectful and she wanted her out of their lives for good. Solange came over to have her sister's back, and things got heated with her and Rachel," said the source.

Jay-Z reportedly said some disrespectful things to his wife and his sister-in-law that angered Knowles even more. This is why Knowles hit Jay-Z when they were inside the elevator and was away from everyone. However, the moment was captured in the CCTV.
