George Harrison still has a vivid memory of the last time he saw his bandmate from The Beatles, John Lennon, alive.

The Beatles broke up in 1970 despite their skyrocketing career. For the last time, they gifted their fans their final album, "Let It Be," in 1969.

After the split, the members barely saw each other again as they went on to pursue solo careers. As for Lennon and Harrison, the duo had bitter feelings toward each other during their final years as The Beatles.

Still, they met again in New York - and it marked the final time Harrison saw Lennon alive.

In one of his past interviews, Harrison recalled visiting Lennon's New York House in Dakota. At that time, the late musician made dinner for him.

"He was actually playing a lot of Indian music. Which surprised me, because he always used to be like a little bit [annoyed] when I was playing it. So he had hundreds of cassettes of all kinds of stuff. He grew into it," he said, per Express UK.

But when he learned about Lennon's assassination, Harrison purportedly convinced himself to think positively and thought that The Beatles member might only be wounded.

With the thought that he met him before Lennon was ultimately shot, Harrison became emotional while expressing the shock they all went through.

Eleven years later, Harrison followed Lennon and died at the age of 58 due to cancer.

During the same interview, Harrison revealed the difficulty of losing his friend.

"I hadn't seen him for so long. I didn't see him for two years anyway, occasionally [I'd] maybe send a postcard. It's knowing that he's on the other end of the telephone if you do want to call. That's the difference. Now you need the big cosmic telephone to speak to him," he said.

Despite being broken, Harrison said he could not get sad about it since he believed that life goes on even without Lennon.

In 1980, Lennon died after being shot and killed by an obsessed fan in New York City. He was entering a Manhattan apartment building when Mark David Chapman shot him four times at a close range.

The Beatles member started bleeding too much that he was dead on arrival at the hospital. He was no longer breathing when they arrived at the Roosevelt Hospital ten minutes later, but the doctors still tried to revive him for 20 minutes.

However, the bullets inside his body had already shredded his insides.

The fan was said to have killed him as he was angered by the singer's claim in 1966 that The Beatles were "more popular than Jesus."
