Teyana Taylor made headlines in the past few weeks when she was announced to have snagged the role of playing the iconic Dione Warwick in her very own biopic film. While Taylor has been making strides in the music industry for quite a while already, some people thought that she had an advantage entering the scene - one would say how a "nepo baby" is.

In a conversation with Interview Magazine, Teyana Taylor has finally spoken out about the allegations thrown at her for being a "nepo baby". A term coined for personalities in the entertainment industry, or any industry in general, who had an advantage because they have influential parents who gave them a boost in the same industry.
Notably, Teyana Taylor was prominently featured in "My Sweet 16," an American reality television series documenting the lives of teenagers whose parents want to throw them lavish birthday parties. Taylor appeared on one.
In the same interview, she debunked the allegations that she is a "nepo baby," pointing out that it was her mother's hard work that should be lauded instead.
"I've seen all these tweets like, "That's crazy. I never knew Teyana was a nepo baby," and I'm like, "Tell me who my celebrity parents are?" Let's be clear. My mom was literally a workaholic, she worked her ass off to make sure I had everything that I needed," she clarified.
By the time "My Sweet 16" happened, Taylor said that she had just already signed with Pharell Williams label, Star Trak. She admitted that it was from her mother's hard-earned money and her own pockets that secured the record deal.
"I was just this little Harlem girl and we sat down and watched Sweet 16 and I knew I wanted to set the tone. I'm from New York. I don't want no car. I want a bike. You feel me?" she dished out. AllHipHop noted that it was Pharell's team who orchestrated the "My Sweet 16" episode.
Her mother, Nikki Taylor works in the fashion industry, the outlet reports.

Billboard exclusively reported the news, saying that Taylor will be playing the iconic singer in her own biopic film.
"We're already working on it, We're in the building process right now. I always wanted to make sure I could lock in with any person that I would be playing," she told Tamron Hall in an interview.
