Kesha's first win against Dr. Luke in a series of lawsuits might just set the tone for what is to come.

Kesha scored a pre-trial win against famed music producer Dr. Luke in a defamation lawsuit he filed against her for accusing him of sexual assault and battery.

According to Reuters, the New York Court of Appeals reversed a ruling previously made by a lower court in 2021. The initial ruling states that Dr. Luke, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald, is not considered a "public figure," however, the Court of Appeals states otherwise.

"By 2014, when Gottwald initiated this defamation action, he was, by his own account, a celebrity - an acclaimed music producer who had achieved enormous success in a high-profile career," read a statement by Judge Michael Garcia.

On top of this win, Kesha was also allowed to file counterclaims against the music producer for damages, including legal fees and emotional distress.

Kesha Vs. Dr. Luke

The defamation lawsuit was brought about after Kesha sued Dr. Luke back in October 2014.

The lawsuit included a myriad of allegations against her former producer including sexual assault and battery, sexual harassment, gender violence, emotional abuse, and more.

Now that the defamation case is out of the way, what can this mean for the "Tik Tok" singer going forward?

Kesha Cries Sexual Abuse

According to reports, with the pre-trial victory under her belt, Kesha and her legal team will have a slight advantage over the producer and his camp.

Dr. Luke's lawyers will have to prove that the "We R Who We R" singer acted with "actual malice" when she accused him and called out his actions several years back.

Prior to the legal fiasco that is currently going down between the two, Kesha and Dr. Luke used to work closely together in the early 2000s up until the 2010s.

According to reports, Kesha met Dr. Luke after she signed with RCA Records; they worked on her hit debut single "Tik Tok."

After her debut album, Dr. Luke continued to work with the singer, and together, they released "Animal," Kesha's sophomore album.

The entire time, though, Kesha alleged, Dr. Luke was doing unspeakable things to her. The allegations was met with strong support from the fans, many of them initiated petitions, demanding that Kesha be "freed" from Dr. Luke.
