Dua Lipa 'Future Nostalgia' Almost Cancelled?

Released in March 2020, Dua Lipa's "Future Nostalgia" came at a time when the world stopped because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Unaware of what would happen in the next few months, Lipa and Warner Records still proceeded with the release.

Lipa revealed to the Awards Chatter podcast of The Hollywood Reporter that it was close to having the record be pushed back in release because of the world events at the time. She also said that it was "so heartbreaking" because she had promoted the record already and was about to go on tour.

"Then it was a whole conversation of 'Well are we gonna release the record, at the time? What should we do?' and I felt so strongly about the fact, even though in my head I had envisioned that this was an album that was gonna be heard out and get people dancing, it was... I don't know, it felt necessary to me to get it out there and I was like 'You know what? Whatever is supposed to happen with it, will. And it kept people dancing in their homes. For that i'm very grateful."

Dua Lipa snagged the Best Pop Vocal Album of the Year at the 2021 Grammy Awards for "Future Nostalgia." She was nominated for Album of the Year but lost to Taylor Swift's "folklore." Her lead single, "Don't Start Now" was nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year.

Billboard listed the album as the No. 2 of The 50 Best Albums of 2020, The Guardian's No. 2 of the 50 Best Albums of 2020, and People Magazine and GQ Magazine's No. 1 album of 2020.
