Typically, when an artist puts out a “solo” album, they usually just sing and play one instrument (if that) while every other part is filled out by their band members or session musicians. While there’s nothing wrong with making an album that way, there are other artists who insist on controlling every aspect of their albums, even if it means playing each and every instrument on their own. Here are seven great albums that were created almost entirely by a single person. -
Spotify Streams Way Up following Grammys for Daft Punk, more
Album and download sales are down. Everyone knows this. The number of viewers taking on the Grammys even year continues to rise however, most likely because they're on television, and the populace just can't handle things they can't see. Either way, musicians that are already pretty popular from a musical perspective see huge increases in activity following The Grammys' broadcast, at least according to numbers released by Spotify. -
The Big Dream: David Lynch Presents Ringo Starr with Lifetime Achievement Award for Peace and Love
With only two Beatles still surviving, it's near impossible for either Paul McCartney or Ringo Starr to stay out of the limelight. Macca, aged 71, is still as prolific as he was in his 40s, yet Ringo, 73, remains ever more humble and tame (especially since Harry Nilsson... -
Giant Beatle Romps Through Japan
A giant Beatle "did some damage" during his romp through Japan, and that's not a reference to the nation's classic monster films. Paul McCartney was the highest earner on Billboard's final Hot Tours list of 2013, and much of that was thanks to the six-date stretch he spent in Japan during November. -
Saturday Night Fever: Old and New Party Mix
When New Year's rolls around it's a time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future. With that in mind, this week's Saturday Night Fever playlist highlights some of the most iconic musicians and features songs from their past, even decades ago, and songs that they released this year. -
Caitlin Carter's Playlist of 2013: Eminem, Paul McCartney, and Rich Homie Quan
Music Times, like so many other music publications, was looking to publish a "Best of 2013" playlist. We met to discuss what such a playlist should include, and that's where we ran into trouble. We couldn't agree. Sometimes two of us just couldn't agree on whether the performer was amazing or terrible, and even when we agreed they were amazing, we couldn't agree on what track was most representative of their work. Hence it was decided that rather than try to agree (a seemingly impossible endeavor), everyone would get their own "favorites of 2013" playlist. We won't argue that these are neccesarily the best tracks of the last year, but they're definitely songs that caught our respective attention and caused us to hit 'repeat" over and over and over again -
Vampire Weekend and Kanye West Vie for Rolling Stone's Album of The Year Title
It just must be the time of the year for announcing one's albums of the year, as Rolling Stone has also released its list of the best 50 for 2013 (Music Times will publish its list December 21). SPIN also published its own list of best records this week, as we reported yesterday. Considering the number of albums released during the year, there was a decent amount shared, relatively, within the Top 5 of both publications. -
Pearl Jam, Miley Cyrus, Paul McCartney and Drake battled for the top album in the Billboard charts last week
Forgive us if we're bracing for next week; Katy Perry's Prism is set to drop and it could give Justin Timberlake's first 2013 release a run for the biggest opening frame of the year. Last week's Top 10 was still overrun by new albums however, so we should probably give them credit before Perry-pocalypse sets in. -

The Beatles and 'Abbey Road' Causing Problems in North London 44 Years After Famous Album's Release
You would think that this would've become a problem a much longer time ago, but North London residents are now complaining about the frequency of Beatles fans coming to Abbey Road to recreate the iconic cover of the "Abbey Road" album. The constant stream of tourists trying to take photos in the crosswalk have cause numerous accidents, and graffiti has started to build up around the site. -
Paul McCartney Tour: The Beatles Bassist Reflects on "Out There!" World Tour, Nirvana Jam
Paul McCartney is a huge draw on tour, and he still loves to do it. The former Beatles bassist recently did some recording in Seattle, where he invited former Nirvana members Dave Grohl, Krist Novolesic and touring guitarist Pat Smear onstage to rock out. McCartney did an interview with Rolling Stone where he discussed how much he still enjoyed playing old Beatles tracks, even the lesser known ones.
