  • John Coltrane Documentary Coming from 'The U.S. Vs. John Lennon' Director

Once you tackle John Lennon and Brian Wilson's lives in documentary films, it is tough to find subjects as interesting or important. But director/writer/producer John Scheinfeld ("The U.S. Vs. John Lennon," "Beautiful Dreamer") has been working on a new project featuring John Coltrane, the legendary saxophonist who died in 1967."He was an artist whose work resonated with fans from all walks of life — the architect Frank Gehry, Clint Eastwood, Bono, Philip Glass, Alicia Keys, Bill Clinton — and that fascinated me. What is it about this music that touches people so deeply?" Scheinfeld said, via "The Hollywood Reporter."The director's goal was not to glorify Coltrane, but to humanize him.
  • 'Time' Magazine's Short List for 'Person of the Year' Candidates Is Raising Some Eyebrows

On Wednesday, Dec. 10, "Time" magazine will announce its 2014 Person of the Year, and after learning who landed on the short list of candidates, we are more than a little confused. Some of the names on the list are not too shocking. There is Tim Cook, who introduced a bunch of new Apple products this year and then decided to come out of the closet, making him the first openly gay CEO of a Fortune 500 company. There is Taylor Swift, who, as a top-selling artist, decided to pull her music from Spotify this past fall because she believes the streaming service is not compensating artists nearly enough. But some of the other contenders are a bit baffling.Like Vladimir Putin, the Russian president who guided his country through hosting the Sochi Olympics in February under subpar conditions. He has also been one of the ringleaders in the ongoing strife between Russia and eastern Ukraine. Then there is NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who has spent the last six months living under a microscope because it seems the majority of even NFL fans believe he purposely set out to cover up several domestic violence cases within the league, including the now-infamous knockout punch by Ray Rice that was caught on surveillance tape and then shown to the world. The Ferguson protesters have also made the list, but wouldn't it have made more sense for the peaceful protesters in New York City's chokehold case to have made it instead? By pointing to Ferguson, sadly the first thing that comes to mind for many people is either the rioting and destruction of local businesses after Darren Wilson was not indicted, or else the video of Michael Brown's grieving and angry stepfather directing the crowd to burn things down.
  • Have Chief Keef and Migos Squashed Their Beef?

It would appear that the year-long beef between Chief Keef's GBE crew and Migos has been put to bed. An Instagram picture posted late last night, Dec. 8, was of him and Migos together and seemingly in good spirits. The duo have been trading jabs online through music and in real life for the better part of a year now, so it is good to see what was becoming an explosive beef is now apparently settled, via radio.com.In addition to the Chief Keef Instagram post, Migos posted the same picture on their Twitter account with the simple caption "Miglo." "Miglo" mashes together "Migos" and "Glory" from GBE, which stands for "Glory Boys Entertainment." This seems pretty definitive that they are putting past differences behind them and trying to move forward.Miglo pic.twitter.com/wn2nn6tifT — MIGOS™ (@MigosATL) December 9, 2014Even more proof of reconciliation comes from GBE member Tadoe, also featured in the other pic, who posted on his Instagram a different picture then that of Chief Keef and Migos. It is in the same place as the previous picture and shows the group members, including Migos later on in the night, still in good spirits and plenty of party supplies on hand.
  • Lorde Admits She Likes to 'Trawl the Inorganics'

One of the biggest teen stars in the world, Lorde is about as recognizable as any major musician worldwide. At 18, however, she is barely out of high school and still in the prime of her youth. With that youth comes some odd tendencies that one might expect from a teenager regardless of whether or not they are in the spotlight 24/7. In an interview with "Stella" — the British newspaper "The Telegraph's" weekly edition — the "Royals" star reveals that she likes to go sifting through other people's trash for useful items. The interview also goes on to discuss "Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" and her first time in contact with Jennifer Lawrence, who on the set "totally fanned out" when she saw Lorde. She also discusses how she handles her image as a teenage girl pop star and why she eschews the red carpet, but the most interesting caveat is how she takes part in a New Zealand recycling/reuse initiative where each year everyone clears out old junk they are no longer using, like cabinets, cloths, TVs, etc., and puts them out on the street for others to take.It is then shipped off to a landfill, but before that people go through other people's trash and potentially find their own treasures. One of those individuals trawling the trash is Lorde.Lorde describes her passion for going out on the hunt:"See, I'm boring because my favorite thing to do is trawl the inorganics. Do you have inorganics here?"

The album is set for release on March 3 through Polyvinyl.
  • Kelly Osbourne Is Furious that Kathy Griffin Is Replacing Joan Rivers on 'Fashion Police'

Kelly Osbourne was not exactly best friends with Joan Rivers — in fact, the two actually clashed quite a bit — but that does not mean Osbourne did not have respect for her "Fashion Police" costar. In fact, when she found out that Melissa Rivers has handpicked Kathy Griffin to replace Joan on "Fashion Police," Osbourne made her dissatisfaction abundantly clear to everyone within earshot.According to a report by Radar Online, Osbourne also flipped when she found out what Griffin's starting salary on the show will be. Apparently, it is considerably more than what Osbourne started out with, and that is just one more reason for her to be ticked off. It is not like Griffin and Osbourne have ever seen eye to eye anyway, but these issues are only adding fuel to the fire.
  • Nicki Minaj, NBA Star John Wall Pay Tribute to 6-Year-Old Fan Miyah

Miyah Telemaque-Nelson, 6, died Monday, Dec. 8, after a lengthy battle with cancer, and her death made ripples in the pop world and the sports community. The young girl had befriended Nicki Minaj and Washington Wizards star John Wall over the past year.“I can't believe this little angel is gone,” Minaj wrote on Instagram. “When I met her she was recovering. Sending love to her mother and family and John. This is heartbreaking. She was so full of life. #RIPMiyah”NBA standout Wall had also spent a lot of time with the young girl. He’d been writing her name on his shoes all season and spoken to her via FaceTime just two weeks ago, according to CSN Washington. A moment of silence was held for Telemaque-Nelson before the Wizards’s game against the Boston Celtics Monday night, and Wall wrote “RIP Miyah” on his sneakers.
