    The Israeli Jazz & World Music Festival returns to Chicago this year with an even more diverse array of artists, featuring clarinetist/saxophonist Anat Cohen, trumpeter Avishai Cohen, the Idan Raichel Project and many others. World-music sensation Mika Karni launches the festival on Tuesday, May 6 with free concerts at Daley Plaza and the Chicago Cultural Center.

    Riot Fest, the tri-city music festival and exposition, has announced the official, big name stacked lineup for its Toronto edition. Today (May 6), over 50 bands were announced as a part of the Sept. 6 and 7 festival.

    Most sampling arguments occur when a performer takes another's work without asking their permission, resulting a lawsuit or similar. The most recent spat, involving alternative rock band Portishead and R&B experimenter The Weeknd, involves the latter allegedly asking the former if he could borrow a beat, which the former rejected, and the latter ended up running with anyhow.
  • Country's largest vinyl manufacturer expanding operations to meet new demand

    With vinyl sales increasing 32 percent last year with 6.1 million LPs sold, the supply hasn't quite met up with the demand for newly pressed vinyl. One problem is the production capacity of the plants that press them. Many plants have closed down and sold their old presses for parts, but one plant is making plans for expansion. Nashville's United Record pressing plant, made famous for pressing Jack White's vinyl efforts, is ready for more space and more presses.

    A feel-good story has taken a sour turn after some legal shenanigans crept into the picture. A lawsuit was filed on Friday (May 2) with regards to the proper ownership of the music catalogue for Sixto Rodriguez, the Michigan rock musician Sixto Rodriguez, who was immortalized in the 2012 Oscar-winning documentary Searching for Sugar Man.
