Dave Grohl declares that he still cannot listen to the songs of Nirvana and it is because of Kurt Cobain's death in April 1994.

During a recent interview, Grohl said that the shocking demise of his former bandmate broke his heart.

"When Kurt died, every time the radio came on, it broke my heart. I don't put Nirvana records on, no. Although they are always on somewhere. I get in the car, they're on. I go into a shop, they're on. For me, it's so personal," explained Grohl.

The musician said that he still remembers recording songs with Nirvana and Cobain like it was just yesterday. But even though he can still recall what he wore to the studio at that time, he found a new meaning to the lyrics of their songs after Cobain passed away.

Nirvana's Impact On Dave Grohl

Grohl also talked about the impact that Nirvana had on his career and life in general. He joined the band when he was just 21 years old. Grohl also happened to be the longest-serving drummer for Nirvana.

"Nirvana, for me, was a personal revolution, I was 21. You remember being 21? You think you know it all. But you don't. I thought I knew everything. And being in Nirvana showed me how little I really knew. They were some of the greatest highs of my life, but also, of course, one of the biggest lows," said Grohl.

The Future Of Punk

In related news, the musician recently talked about the future of punk and said that music today should be different from previous generations. He said that in this world, music should not sound like it did when he was a teenager.

Grohl also said that for him, punk rock is all about a state of independence. More simply, the genre is about being able to do whatever the musician wants to do.

Grohl currently serves as the lead vocalist and frontman of Foo Fighters. Next month, the band will continue its Concrete and Gold summer tour starting June 19 at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, United Kingdom.

The series of shows will run through July in Toronto, Philadelphia, New York, Pittsburgh, Boston, Ohio, Indianapolis, and will wrap up on July 29 at the Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois. Tickets for Foo Fighters' shows may be purchased online via Ticketmaster.
