The Barbz has something to look forward to at the upcoming MTV VMA Awards 2022 this August!

Queen of Rap Nicki Minaj will be receiving the coveted Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award along with a performance on August 28 at the Microsoft Theatre in Newark, New Jersey.

Nicki Minaj Set To Receive MTV Video Vanguard Award on VMAs 2022

In a recent tweet from MTV, they announced that Nicki Minaj will be receiving the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the upcoming VMA Awards at the end of the month.

The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, or simply the show's Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to an artist for their "outstanding contributions" and "profound impact" on music video and popular culture.

The award has only been given thirty-four times, and Nicki Minaj would be the thirty-five artist and the ninth female overall.

Madonna first received it in 1986 and Janet Jackson in 1990. Two decades later, Britney Spears was awarded with it, following Beyonce in 2014. Rihanna and P!nk received their Moonman in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

While Nicki Minaj precedes Missy Elliot in 2019, making her the second female rapper to bag the award. Nicki was surprised by the achievement, inviting her fans to watch her performance.

Rumors have been going around that she would be performing on the VMAs in the past weeks, especially after liking a comment that suggests that she would be singing her awaited single, "Super Freaky Girl" in the show.

Well, the rumors turned out to be true. The likelihood of Minaj performing "Super Freaky Girl" is also high as the track would be released this week on August 12.By the time the VMAs are broadcasted, the single is expected to hit the charts and streaming services already.

Aside from receiving the Video Vanguard Award, the Trinidadian-born rapper is also nominated for Best Hip-Hop Video.

Her action-packed music video with Lil Baby on "Do We Have A Problem" is going against big names and some new ones.

Kendrick Lamar's "N95," "Pusha T's "Diet Coke," Latto's "Big Energy," Drake's "Wait 4 U," and Eminem's feature with Snoop Dogg "From The D 2 LBC" are also vying for the spot.

Nicki Minaj has been nominated sixteen times for the Video Music Awards during her entire music career. She has managed to win five of those, including Best Hip-Hop Video for "Super Bass," "Anaconda," and "Chun-Li", Best Female Video for "Starships," and "Hot Girl Summer" for Best Power Anthem.
