• Kanye West gets virtual currency named after him called CoinYe West

Online, digital payment currency, or cryptocurrency, has been in the news for much of 2013. Mostly associated with Silk Road and buying drugs, the Bitcoin rose from under $100 to almost $1,000 before the Chinese government effectively outlawed it, cutting its worth in half, according to Vice. Now Kanye West has a cryptocurrency named after him: CoinYe West.
  • President Obama likes Kanye West's music despite having criticized him in the past

In a recent interview with People (via Consequence of Sound), President Obama was asked if he'd rather "hang out" with the Duck Dynasty cast or Kimye, following the recent Duck Dynasty drama. Obama apparently chose the Duck Dynasty crew but told People, "Kanye's music is outstanding though. I've got a lot of his stuff on my iPad. If it was a concert, then I might not mind listening to him."
  • Ryan Book's Playlist of 2013: Lorde, Kanye, and Kvelertak

Music Times, like so many other music publications, was looking to publish a "Best of 2013" playlist. We met to discuss what such a playlist should include, and that's where we ran into trouble. We couldn't agree. Sometimes two of us just couldn't agree on whether the performer was amazing or terrible, and even when we agreed they were amazing, we couldn't agree on what track was most representative of their work. Hence it was decided that rather than try to agree (a seemingly impossible endeavor), everyone would get their own "favorites of 2013" playlist. We won't argue that these are neccesarily the best tracks of the last year, but they're definitely songs that caught our respective attention and caused us to hit 'repeat" over and over and over again
  • Kanye West can't believe he has only two Grammy nominations this year

Kanye West's Yeezus received two Grammy nominations this year. It is up for Best Rap Album, competing with Drake, Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and its track "New Slaves" is up for Best Rap Song. But is this enough of a nod for an album that has topped most Best of 2013 lists? West doesn't think so.
