One Direction

  • Beyoncé, Garth Brooks, One Direction top Billboard 200 amidst no significant releases

The year is coming to a close, and that means you shouldn't expect too many new releases coming down the pipe. This week's Top 10 of the Billboard 200 didn't have any new entries, so expect to see some familiar names.
  • Is Def Leppard planning to sue One Direction over 'Midnight Memories' / 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' similarities?

Rumor has it that Def Leppard funds the chord structure in 'Midnight Memories' to be a little too similar to that of 'Pour Some Sugar On Me.' Will a lawsuit come from it?
  • Beyoncé zeitgeist leads to top of Billboard 200; Garth Brooks, Kelly Clarkson, R. Kelly place

Beyoncé's new album was totally unannounced, plus it came out on Thursday versus the traditional Tuesday release, plus it was only available on iTunes, so there's no way that it could have made a big Billboard 200 impact, right? HA.
  • Pitbull and Ke$ha beat Eminem and Rihanna for Digital Downloads in slow sales week

For some odd reason, Christmas singles don't sell. Although the Billboard 200 was full of suddenly-popular CD's containing boatloads of "chestnuts," the Digital Downloads Top 10 didn't reflect the same. Which isn't to say that popular music downloads did particularly well either.
  • Garth Brooks tops Billboard 200 after tour announcement, One Direction stays strong, Britney Spears debuts weak

Album sales were down from last week, but last week's totals included Black Friday, so it was bound to happen. That doesn't mean Black Friday's stars were ready to give up their spots on the Top 10 however.
  • Justin Timberlake, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, One Direction and more receive Platinum record and single certifications from RIAA

Some of music's biggest acts are getting an early Christmas gift of gold and platinum. Today (Dec. 11), the RIAA released its list of songs and albums that have gone gold or platinum over the last two months, and the long list features both familiar names and some unexpected gems.
  • Top five music acts of 2013, by StubHub ticket sales

The top five music acts of 2013 in the United States: Taylor Swift, One Direction, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Pink. StubHub collected the data.
  • Pitbull and Ke$ha take top Digital Downloads spot with 'Timber,' followed tightly by Eminem's 'The Monster

For once, the album sales for the previous week made more headlines than the digital downloads, but that doesn't mean that singles are doing badly at all. In fact, after just declaring last week that Eminem's "The Monster" could hold down the top spot for weeks to come, a new track took its place.
  • One Direction wins Black Friday album sales race, Eminem and Garth Brooks place high, Katy Perry returns

We've been real downers for the last couple months with regards to album sales. If you haven't read the news, music sales are down across nearly every format (aside from vinyl), and this has reflected in new releases too, even with some of the biggest stars. What the industry needed was a good Black Friday to boost sales. And boost did it ever.
  • Britney Spears' new album 'Britney Jean' flopping in UK: pop princess' eighth studio album comes in behind older releases from One Direction, Katy Perry

Bad news for Britney Spears and her fans... her eighth studio album "Britney Jean" is flopping in the UK, getting bested by more seasoned releases from One Direction, Eminem and even Katy Perry.
  • One Direction 'Midnight Memories' dominates British album sales, new album will also top United States Billboard charts

It's good to be the hottest boy band in the world. Today (Dec. 1), it was announced that One Direction have the hottest selling record of 2013 in their home country of the United Kingdom, and the "Story of my Life" group are also aiming for a huge debut in the United States.
  • Ariana Grande, Niall Horan and Taylor Swift dominate AMA's Twitter attention

There's been some concern recently over how well or unwell pop music albums have been selling (we admit to have a role in this). Based on social media statistics from this weekend's American Music Awards however, people have no problem watching the same pop stars on television.
