• Nick Gordon in Rehab After Admitting Drug Use and Threatening Suicide

Nick Gordon chose to remain silent for the first few weeks after Bobbi Kristina Brown was found unresponsive in her bath tub but eventually he returned to Twitter. He used social media as his way to reach out to Brown's family and beg for the opportunity to visit his comatose girlfriend. When Bobby Brown's attorney shot down that idea, Gordon's postings became more desperate. On the eve of Bobbi Kristina's 22nd birthday Gordon threatened to kill himself and apparently that was a turning point for his family. His mother and Dr. Phil staged an intervention this week that will be broadcast on March 11.

  • Nearly 5M People Watched Lifetime 'Whitney' Biopic

The film itself averaged 4.5 million viewers between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET, according to "The Hollywood Reporter." • Whitney Houston Biopic: What the Critics Are Saying

Lifetime's Whitney Houston biopic, aptly titled "Whitney," premiered last night, Jan. 17, much to the dismay of the singer's family. The Houston family released a statement prior to the debut of the Angela Bassett-directed film to remind fans that there was a lack of involvement by people who knew the diva. Critics weighed in on the biopic, and by most accounts, it was one of the network's better efforts. According to "Billboard," since Houston estate was not involved in the making of the film, the singer's famous tunes were re-recorded by Deborah Cox so star Yaya DaCosta could lip-sync along. Other than that, most reviews said the biopic was incomplete, focusing on Houston's best years and leaving out her untimely death.
  • Taylor Swift Continues Reign on 'Billboard' 200 with '1989'; Nicki Minaj's 'Pinkprint' Hits No. 2

Taylor Swift's "1989" moved back into the No. 1 spot on the "Billboard" 200, bringing its total, nonconsecutive weeks at the top to six. It sold 375,000 copies last week, bringing the total for the year to 3.34 million. The record is on pace to overtake the "Frozen" soundtrack, which sold 3.46 million so far. Nicki Minaj's "The Pinkprint" sits comfortably at the No. 2 spot, "Billboard" notes. Swift is tied with Mariah Carey for total weeks at No. 1 with 30. Only one other woman has them beat with 46: Whitney Houston. The Beatles are still in first for all artists with 132 weeks at No. 1. Pentatonix has the No. 3 spot with "That's Christmas to Me." Minaj was able to crack the top 10 recently, and D'Angelo's new "Black Messiah" hit No. 5. "The Pinkprint" did not perform as well as the artist's previous effort "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded." The former sold 244,000 in its first week while the latter hit 253,000 — it also debuted at No. 1.
  • The Longest Streaks in Hot 100 History: Featuring Plenty of Boyz II Men, Mariah Carey and Black Eyed Peas

On this date during 1994, Boyz II Men stuck around for a 14th week atop the Billboard Hot 100 with its hit "I'll Make Love To You." That tally left it in a tie with Whitney Houston and "I Will Always Love You" for the most weeks on top of the Hot 100. As album sales have grown less important to the industry and single sales have become more relevant, that record has since changed hands. Check out the Top 13 songs in terms of weeks at no. 1 (mind you, there are quite a few ties...we ranked ties according to age of the song, not by how much we personally enjoyed it).
