Jimmy Kimmel Live! is broadcasting from South by Southwest all week, which means producers have scheduled some great acts to perform on the show during its residency. Spoon kept the good times going last night, March 17, performing "Rainy Taxi" and "I Just Don't Understand" from their new album They Want My Soul, Spin noted. It was a homecoming performance for the band from Austin.

Britt Daniel and Co. opened with the pulsating "Rainy Taxi," performing in front of a giant "Austin" neon. The tune was highlighted by Daniel's closing guitar solo and some trippy keyboard effects. The group closed out the showcase with the bluesy, Tom Petty-esque "I Just Don't Understand." Check out both videos below.

British singer-songwriter James Bay will perform on Kimmel tonight, March 18, followed by The Weeknd Thursday and Willie Nelson Friday.

They Want My Soul is Spoon's eighth album and their first for Loma Vista -- they left Merge over the summer after 14 years and five LPs. The record hit No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart behind singles "Rent I Pay," "Do You" and "Inside Out."

"Spoon's eighth album is an immediate grabber on par with the group's best work to date. It's also the first time Spoon have worked extensively with big-name producers (alt-rock mainstays Joe Chiccarelli and Dave Fridmann), who've helped create a rich, luminous sound for a set of hooky songs," Rolling Stone wrote about the effort.

Spoon has one more gig scheduled for SXSW this week. The group will play Thursday night at the Auditorium Shores Stage Lady Bird Lake. Daniel and Co. have festival appearances scheduled for Homegrown, Hangout, Sasquatch! and Bonnaroo.
