Another big name entertainment figure will be paying tribute to The Ramones, and it's far more exciting than another "best of" compilation (with apologies to Morrissey, who will be curating the band's newest hits collection). Martin Scorsese will be directing a drama about the band for release during 2016, according to Spin

There's no doubt that the Academy Award winner is heavily invested in both rock 'n' roll and New York City but it's still somewhat surprising to hear the auteur will be doing a biopic on The Ramones, and not because of the band in question. Scorsese has a number of documentaries on rock bands under how belt—Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones and George Harrison—but he's never done typical cinema regarding one of his idols.

Unfortunately, considering the release date being nearly two years in the future, there's little else to report, namely a cast. What can be assured however is that the band will get a more respectful consideration than what it's seen in recent films such as 2013's CBGB

Our earlier wording was somewhat confusing, as it suggested Scorsese wouldn't be creating a documentary about the band. He most certainly will, but he'll simultaneously be working on a big screen film as well. So viewers will get to see The Ramones from all angles as guided by Scorsese's hand.

The two films—and potentially even a Broadway musical (not directed by Scorsese)—will be hitting audiences as part of the 40th anniversary celebration of the band's first self-titled album dropping during 1976.
