Elizabeth Vargas has been grabbing more headlines in the last few years because of her personal problems than any of her work on ABC's "20/20" has garnered. She willingly went to rehab last year after admitting to being an alcoholic and then decided a second stint as an inpatient was necessary for her recovery this year. She is currently going through a divorce from her husband of 12 years, Marc Cohen, and according to sources there is a new man helping her through all the turmoil.According to Page Six, WABC/Channel 7 station manager Dave Davis has often been spotted out and about in New York City with Vargas. The two have known each other for many years because of both working at ABC, and Vargas has trusted Davis's support while going through some difficult stuff. Cohen has said in the past that the issues in their marriage were longstanding but that he continues to support Vargas's addressing her problems and recovery, just as he always has.Sources close to Vargas have said she and Davis are just friends and that she does not feel like this is the right time in her life to start anything new. Instead, she is remaining focused on her recovery. -
Smith Westerns Hiatus: 'Varsity' Band Calls It Quits (for Now)
The Smith Westerns will finish up their post-album cycle Dec. 23 when their tour comes to an end in their hometown of Chicago. Unfortunately, it sounds like it might be the group's final show. Cullen Omori released a series of tweets Saturday, Dec. 13, that hinted at the end:Definitely going to be an end of an era at Schubas on the 23rd. If you're fan and live in Chicago I would suggest getting a ticket. — Cullen Omori (@CullenOmorii) December 13, 2014Can't stress anymore that the 23rd at Schubas is the last official show before we go on indefinite hiatus :( http://t.co/KvygPBrHEJ — Cullen Omori (@CullenOmorii) December 14, 2014It's been a cool 7 years and I'm super grateful for everything. Wish some things recently could've changed but the 23rd is a last hurrah! — Cullen Omori (@CullenOmorii) December 14, 2014All the band members attended the same elite Chicago high school, and the group talked about the Midwestern pressure to go the "supposed" route when they were first hitting it big in late 2009."I think it's a very Midwestern thing, this 'what you should be doing' kind of thing going on," Omori told Epilogue. "This embedded consciousness of, if you f--k up, they were right. A lot of the kids we hang out with now aren't from here, they just went to college here. I've heard a lot of comments about the Midwest and how it sucks, coming from L.A. or New York or something. There's this wholesome thing, too. But I like living in Chicago, I like this city." -
Kate Middleton and Prince William Give Us an Early Christmas Gift: New Photos of Prince George
Part of the appeal of Kate Middleton and Prince William seems to be the fact that the media and fans alike seem to believe them when they say they just want a normal life. Statements like that are not directly followed by weird, two-block walks with Prince George meant for the paparazzi to get a couple photos to leak. Instead, they work when they have to and steer clear of the spotlight the rest of the time. Prince George tends to be off limits and even if a member of the press could grab a shot of him it seems unlikely it would be sold out of respect for the royals. It is because of that that Middleton and William have released a few new photos of their son.The shots were reportedly taken by "a member of the household staff" on the stairs on Kensington Palace. The last time we saw Prince George was for his birthday in July, and boy has he grown. No longer a baby, George is a toddler on the go. Perhaps the best part of the new photos is the fact that they capture his personality. You can tell that this kid is a fun handful and he must be giving his pregnant mom a real run for it.What are your thoughts on the way Middleton and William have opted to shield their son from the press? He is only a few weeks younger than North West, so just think of how many times she has been carted to inappropriate events — like NYFW — as the perfect accessory to whatever Kim Kardashian is wearing. Her daughter has been photographed like crazy, but have we ever actually seen North West smile in any of those shots? It looks like Prince George is the happier kid, don't you think? -
VH1 Releases 'Supertrailer' for 'Love & Hip Hop' Season 5 Featuring Amina Buddafly, Erica Mena, Rich Dollaz and Newcomer Jhonni Blaze [WATCH]
VH1 recently wrapped its first season of "Love & Hip Hop Hollywood," and now the franchise is going back to New York. The network recently released a "supertrailer" for Season 5 of "Love & Hip Hop" featuring Amina Buddafly, Erica Mena, Rich Dollaz and newcomer Jhonni Blaze. The four-minute clip opens with Yandy Smith welcoming home her fiance Mendeecees Harris. She later surprises him with a positive pregnancy test. With all the baby talk, things then shift to Amina Buddafly and Peter Gunz, who are expecting a baby of their own. They learn they are expecting a girl and discuss changes in their lifestyle. Peter's ex, Tara Wallace, gets thrown into the mix and Yandy counsels her on her on-again/off-again relationship with Gunz.Erica Mena and Cyn Santana return showcasing their turbulent relationship and, apparently, things are not looking up. In one scene, Santana calls Mena out for a video where she licks champagne off a stranger's body. Mena's troubles do not end there. This season, the cast welcomes Chrissy Crastanda, who makes her grand entrance by telling Mena's ex, Rich Dollaz, that the model used to be one of her escorts back in the day.Rich Dollaz still cannot seem to shake the drama with the ladies. He is bringing his new love interest, Jhonni Blaze, along this time. If the name sounds familiar, it is because she is the Houston stripper who accused Drake of sending his people to her house to threaten her life.Diamond Strawberry, daughter of legendary New York Mets outfielder Darryl Strawberry, also joins the cast this season with her boyfriend, Cisco. In the clip, Strawberry finds out Cisco fathered a 6-month-old baby with another woman during their relationship and things go sour. -
Sierra Leone Cancels Public Christmas and New Year's Celebrations to Curtail the Ebola Virus
Only about 10 percent of all people who are living in Sierra Leone are Christians who will be celebrating this holiday season, but the government has already put necessary restrictions on the festivities due to the continuing Ebola outbreak. Sierra Leone is now the hardest-hit country, surpassing the illness and death that even Liberia has seen, and its leaders are scrambling to find ways to keep Ebola from spreading. That has led them to determine that public Christmas and New Year's celebrations are now banned.People are now forbidden from gathering in groups to celebrate as they normally would. Military personnel will once again take to the streets to make sure that groups of revelers are not gathering together, which would basically intensify the risk of spreading the virus to each other. This is just one more way the everyday lives of the people of West Africa have been disrupted by this epidemic. As of Dec. 10, Sierra Leone had recorded 8,000 cases of Ebola and nearly 1,900 deaths. In West Africa as a whole, more than 18,000 people have been infected, resulting in more than 6,500 deaths. Those numbers are pretty harrowing, but the truth is many at the World Health Organization feared they would be far higher by now. -
Bill Cosby Breaks His Silence Amid Scandal and Plays the Race Card to Divert Attention
While women seem to have come pouring out of the woodwork to make allegations against Bill Cosby, for the most part he has stayed tight-lipped. Obviously his legal team has advised him that it is probably in his best interest not to comment, but last Friday Cosby spoke with a Page Six reporter and in the matter of just a few words attempted to play the race card.Cosby has requested that, in spite of all the allegations, the media do their job and remain neutral while covering this scandal and its daily updates. Apparently, Cosby does not expect the majority of the press to be able to do that, as he said, "Let me say this. I only expect the black media to uphold the standards of excellence in journalism and when you do that you have to go in with a neutral mind."It is more than a little bit ironic that Cosby opted to make a statement that would separate journalists by color, especially at this point in time when racial tensions are perhaps at an all-time high thanks to high-profile cases in Ferguson, Missouri, and New York City. Cosby knew what he was tapping into when making that statement, and it also links to a bigger issue that is playing out in the form of protests all over the country. -
