    Jack White made headlines when he announced that he was the bidder who spent $300,000 for the acetate of Elvis Presley's original single, a 7" pressing from Sun Records featuring "My Happiness" and "That's When Your Heartaches Begin," and that his label Third Man Records would be releasing copies of the recording for Record Store Day 2015. That album was sold at a formal auction but you don't have to go that far for expensive vinyl: eBay has plenty of mind-boggling LPs up for sale. One example was the man who paid $37,100 for a copy of Tommy Johnson's "Alcohol and Jake Blues" during 2013. As Music Times hit publish, here are the seven records with bids of more than $1,000 on eBay at the moment, ranked from least to most expensive.

    Jack White has revealed that he was the buyer of Elvis Presley's first record, and he plans on sharing it with fans as a special Record Store Day release from Third Man Records. The 1953 acetate features two songs, "My Happiness" and "That's When Your Heartaches Begin." The record was bought at auction for $300,000—three-times as much as it was expected to fetch—and the guitarist would later reveal himself as the buyer.

  • Garth Brooks Ahead of Elvis in Album Sales: Still Far Behind Beatles

    Elvis Presley may be the King of Rock 'n' Roll, but Garth Brooks is currently closer to the crown for best-selling solo artist of all-time, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. The country superstar's most recent effort, "Man Against Machine," has earned platinum status, bumping his total to 135 million units. It puts Brooks just past Presley's 134.5 million units in the United States. The Beatles still top the list, though. "The Last Dance" singer surpassed the King back in 2007, but fans pointed out that Presley's 118.5 million total did not include all of his early singles that the RIAA never certified as gold, platinum or beyond — Brooks had 123 million. The Beatles are currently the all-time record holders with 178 million units sold. Brooks would have to be on his A-game for the next couple years to try and overthrow the Fab Four.
