  • Police Called to Richard Simmons' Home for Wellness Check as Friends Fear He Is Being Abused

For more than three decades Richard Simmons was one of those celebs that seemed to pop up everywhere. He went to his fitness studio in Beverly Hills daily, did guest stints on popular shows and was always on board to support just about any charity event. Then in November of 2013 all of that publicity just came to a screeching halt with Simmons deciding to duck out of the public eye for a while. After about a year even those who had been close to him started telling the press that they were worried because he was shunning them as well. Things came to a head last night when the LAPD paid a visit to the exercise guru's home for a wellness check.

We all do, and the Dover, Delaware, police department decided to capitalize on spreading a bit of cheer by starting a new series of videos. While they are supposed to be legit, the department has already admitted that the viral video of Officer Jeff Davis singing along to Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" in his patrol car was intentionally done, it does not make it any less amusing.
  • 'Hollywood Exes' Shanna Moakler and Travis Barker Both Arrested for Making Death Threats Against Each Other

If you're a fan of VH1's Hollywood Exes then you're already familiar with Shanna Moakler. The former Miss USA was once married to Travis Barker and after splitting back in 2009 the two have continued to live together to co-parent their kids. While it sounds like an odd arrangement, the way that Moakler explained it made it sound logical. Instead of shuffling kids, she and Barker take turns holding down the fort during their visitation time. Unfortunately, on Dec. 7 the former lovebirds got into a scary altercation that involved death threats and Moakler calling the police.
  • French Media Cos. Offer to Keep 'Charlie Hebdo' Running

Less than 24 hours after two gunmen walked into the Parisian offices of "Charlie Hebdo" and opened fire, killing 10 key staffers, the French media is working together to figure out how to keep the publication running. The publication takes a weekly satirical look at hot button political and religious issues — something everyone does not always appreciate. In fact, the offices were fire bombed back in 2010, leading to a regular police presence around the perimeter of the building the newspaper was located in. While not everyone agrees with the content that has been produced by "Charlie Hebdo," the right to produce it has been widely supported, especially in light of this tragedy. According to a report by "The Hollywood Reporter," the French media is beginning to work together to align itself so "Charlie Hebdo" will continue, exactly what the gunmen still on the loose did not want to see happen. "TV giant France Televisions, Radio France and newspaper 'Le Monde,' in a joint statement late on Wednesday, [Jan. 7,] vowed to offer human and material support needed to keep 'Charlie Hebdo' alive. They didn't immediately detail how much staff and what other help they would make available. "The three groups invite all French media who have mobilized since this morning to meet to preserve the principles of independence and liberty of thought and expression, the guarantors of our democracy," said an official statement that was announced this morning regarding the future of "Charlie Hebdo."
  • Sydney Cops Move in to Rescue Hostages Held in Café by Man Haron Monis, Self-Styled Iranian Sheikh with ISIS Ties

It appears that a 15-hour standoff between a lone gunman and police has come to an end. Man Haron Monis, a self-styled Iranian sheikh, has been identified as the man who walked into a busy chocolate café in Sydney, Australia's financial district and took a number of hostages, according to AOL. The situation remains fluid, but as of now we know police stormed the cafe and, while gunshots rang out, at least some hostages were able to escape to safety. Monis already has an illustrious criminal record with various charges of sexual assault, and he also has been arrested for sending hate mail to families of Australian soldiers who have died in Afghanistan. Monis is currently free on bail after being considered an accessory to murder after his alleged girlfriend was killed and he then set his wife on fire. After taking several people hostage earlier today, said ABC News, Monis encouraged them to use social media to get his wish for an ISIS flag and a conversation with Australian political figures across to everyone listening. At times the hostages were seen pushed up against the plate-glass windows and Monis could be seen pacing wildly. After about 11 hours in captivity, five hostages were able to make a run for safety and, upon realizing it, Monis reportedly became more unstable, leading police to start to formulate their plan to go in after him.
  • Petition Filed by National Bar Association to Strip Darren Wilson of Badge in Missouri

About a week after learning that he would not be indicted for the Aug. 9 shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, Darren Wilson ironed out the details and resigned from the Ferguson Police Department. Wilson agreed with the department that it is in everyone's best interest that he not serve and protect in Ferguson again. His being on the streets would only put him as well as other officers at risk. While it seems unlikely that Wilson will patrol anywhere again, he has still retained his badge — and that is something the National Bar Association is not happy about. The country's oldest and largest group of African-American attorneys and judges have filed a nine-page petition requesting that Wilson be completely stripped of his badge. The official petition is requesting that the Missouri Department of Public Safety revoke Wilson's badge. While under oath, Wilson insisted that during his altercation with Brown he had feared for his life, but some naysayers believe the officer got away with murder.
  • Jeanine Pirro of Fox News Claims 'Minority Communities' Need to Be More Sensitive Toward Police

Fox News often finds itself under fire for the stance that the network appears to take on hot-button issues, and right now nothing is more volatile than the tension between police and their handling of the black community. Last night, Jeanine Pirro decided to ask for viewer feedback on whether or not police should be more careful in the way they deal with incidences occurring in black communities and the response was quite unified. In between people stating the obvious — that if you are not breaking the law then you are less likely to find yourself tangled in any sort of altercation — there was also the thinking that communities need to be more mindful of the police. Pirro backed up that notion and, interestingly enough, it Is a sentiment that even New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has echoed. Basically, the thinking is that there is a rift, and in order to fix it both sides need to take steps toward meeting in the middle. He also admitted last week, shortly after it was announced that NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo would not be indicted in the chokehold death of Eric Garner, that his own biracial son has been directed on how to carry himself if he should be stopped by a police officer.
