Former Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Mars Volta guitarist John Frusciante has announced a new solo album, a self-titled effort under the name Trickfinger -- the album cover is up above -- and has shared its opening track "After Below," which you can check out below. Though Frusciante has explored electronic music on his most recent solo releases, "Consequence of Sound" reported that Frusciante will be diving headfirst into a new "experimental acid house" style for this album. "Trickfinger" is set for release April 7 through Acid Test.
  • Bad Habits: Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Gwen Stefani and More Performers with Nun Imagery in Music Videos

Fifty years ago featured a very special guest appearance on NBC's Tarzan, as The Supremes stopped by. Fortunately even network executives and scriptwriters in those days weren't dumb enough to put the Motown stars in potentially offensive roles so the trio of vocalists was cast as a group of nuns. It was, in short, the most politically correct portrayal of nuns on this side of The Sound of Music. Many musicians have donned habits for music videos and very few of them took as kindly to the sisterhood as NBC did.
  • 10 Best Late-Night Performances of '14: Ryan Adams, Bobby Shmurda, Kendrick Lamar, More [WATCH]

The late-night performance has become a rite of passage in recent years for up-and-coming bands. For more established acts, it is a chance to play some songs from a new record. There is no denying that the moves made in 2014 in the late-night realm affected the quality of the performances. David Letterman is retiring in May, so he has just been enjoying it all — he really dug Ryan Adams. Jimmy Fallon took over "The Tonight Show," which meant The Roots adding their Philly funk to acts like Bobby Shmurda. And Stephen Colbert ended his tenure on "The Colbert Report" recently, wisely booking Kendrick Lamar for his final week. The last year was filled with great performances that may have been on past your bedtime. Here are a few of our favorites.
  • 8 Albums Named After The Artist's Home State

A few weeks ago, I wrote a list about albums named after the artist's hometown, such as Outkast's ATLiens or Bruce Springsteen's Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ. The eight artists listed here, however, took this one step further, by naming their albums after their entire home state.
  • Bryan Ferry Shares Five New Songs From Upcoming Album 'Avonmore'

Though his legendary band Roxy Music recently announced their break-up, singer and band leader Bryan Ferry is far from done with the music business, sharing five (yes, five) new songs through NPR from his upcoming album Avonmore. These songs include "Midnight Train," "Soldier of Fortune," "Johnny and Mary," and "Driving Me Wild," as well as a cover of Stephen Sondheim's "Send In The Clowns."
  • Die Antwoord Share 'Ugly Boy' Video with Marilyn Manson, Flea, Jack Black [WATCH]

South African hip-hop duo Die Antwoord has shared the music video for their song "Ugly Boy," which you can check out below. The video, directed by Die Antwoord member Ninja, features a couple cameo appearances from other musicians — who are apparently "ugly boys" — including Marilyn Manson and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Other cameo appearances in the video include actor Jack Black and models Cara Delevingne and Dita Von Teese. Electronic artist Aphex Twin, whose song "Ageipolis" is sampled in the track, has been rumored by some sites as appearing in the video, though "Pitchfork" notes that he does not actually appear. As can be expected of the famously weird Die Antwoord, the music video for "Ugly Boy" is pretty weird stuff, with plenty of blood, violence and other unsettling/offensive images, including a guy in blackface wearing a sweatshirt that reads, "Hi, My Name is God."
  • 8 Bands Whose Producers Are A Member Of The Band

It's often tough for a band to maintain complete control of their creative vision, especially when they hire a producer from outside the band to help them capture their sound on record. These eight bands, however, remained true to their vision by having a member of the band produce their records.
  • 7 Cover Songs That Sound Nothing Like The Original

Though most cover songs remain pretty much faithful to the original arrangement, an interesting cover song should take the basic elements of the original and build something entirely new and unique out of them. Here are seven cover songs that sound nothing like the original.
