• Sinéad O'Connor, Tom Waits and More Contribute to Blind Willie Johnson Tribute Album

    Alligator Records has announced the release of God Don't Never Change: The Songs of Blind Willie Johnson. Sinéad O'Connor, Tom Waits, Lucinda William and a number of other artists have contributed newly recorded versions of the iconic slide guitarist and vocalist's seminal material to the tribute compilation which is due out February 26th.

    Sinead O'Connor is continuing to be active on Facebook following her reported suicide attempt. Since her account was reactivated she has posted several encouraging comments to her page and in the latest has thanked her fans and hospital workers for their support. Her original Facebook rantings were also accusatory towards her family members. This past Sunday (Dec. 6) she also shared a video of Jimi Hendrix playing his song "Wild Thing" in Paris way back in 1967.

    Irish singer Sinead O'Connor has been through a lot over the past 48 hours and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. After posting a lengthy suicide note to her Facebook page yesterday morning (November 29), the artist supposedly attempted suicide by overdosing in an Irish hostel prior to being nursed back to health under medical supervision. She is now safe and sound.

    MC Hammer took his first step to the top of the Billboard 200 on this date 25 years ago with Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em , the hip-hop album that would introduce the world to "U Can't Touch This" and help the rapper to maintain a place at the top of the charts for 21 weeks, interrupted only once. That's impressive but it makes us feel bad for all of the other performers who were denied a no. 1 album by that craze. Nothing tops a best-selling album for musicians but Hammer wasn't trying to give his spot up. Music Times checked out the eight albums that took the no. 2 spot during Don't Hurt 'Em's run, from Madonna to Vanilla Ice, and listed them from least weeks to most in second place.

  • Sinead O'Connor Backs 'Do They Know It's Christmas?," Tells Critics to 'Shut the F--k Up'

    Last week, on Nov. 17, the latest version of Band Aid's classic charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" was released online to raise money for the Ebola crisis in West Africa, and though it went straight to the top of the U.K. charts and is supporting an undoubtedly good cause, the song has been the subject of plenty of criticism, particularly for its lyrics. According to two British newspapers, Emeli Sandé, who actually appears on the latest version, said the lyrics need "changing," while Lily Allen called the song "a bit smug" and said she would prefer "donating actual money." One artist who is vigorously defending the song, however, is the famously outspoken Sinead O'Connor, who also appears on the song. "I think everyone should shut the f--k up," O'Connor told "Broadsheet," via "Billboard." "If you didn't like the lyrics you shouldn't have agreed to sing the song. I think it's smug of Lily Allen to say it's smug."
