Andrew Bird looked back at some pretty dated literature, which inspired his most recent album, "Inside Problems," and one of those iconic writers who he took some inspiration from is Emily Dickinson.

Dickinson was an American poet and is regarded as one of the most prominent poets in the country. Her poems were only brought to light after her death, which became her greatest legacy.

As her poems are still discussed and read to this day, it is no surprise that Bird found inspiration from one of her many pieces, "I Felt a Funeral, In My Brain."

"I came across this Emily Dickinson poem and found it to be the most vivid description of an inner world I've ever encountered," Bird said.

"It became an inspiration for the songs on 'Inside Problems.' Who better to sing it with than Phoebe Bridgers? I sent her a demo and so, here we are."

He enlisted the help of singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers to sing the song as a duet. He also added that Dickinson's publisher at Harvard Univerity Press allowed him to use the poem.

According to several reports, the newly released single is the 49-year-old multiinstrumentalist's new material since the release of "Inside Problems" in June this year.

He was extra delicate with how to handle the poem, as he noted, "As I understand, her poems weren't published as she intended them until the 1950s - that is, without the heavy hand of her male editors."

As of this writing, the video accompanying the song has garnered over 5,200 views, with 500 likes and 50 comments.

Fans lauded the pair for doing such a great job of breathing life into the poem-adapted song. "Mr. Bird's music always held such depth, magical lyrics and amazing little stories," a fan commented.

Bird's "Inside Problems" is a collection of 11 original songs and is described by NPR Music aptly that it "transports listeners to a lush musical world."

Bird reflected on his new album, "From Orpheus to Icarus, depths to heights, and the thresholds in between. I'm interested in the moment when something becomes something else, when somewhere becomes somewhere else. "

Bird, born Andrew Wegman Bird, hails from Lake Bluff, Illinois, and he has been musically inclined pretty much his entire life.

In 2017, his album, "Are You Serious," was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album under the non-classical category.
