  • Sting's 'The Last Ship' Coming to an End on Broadway: Producers Pull the Plug on Shipyard Musical

Sting's first try at Broadway, "The Last Ship," will come to an end Jan. 24 after a four-month run. The former Police frontman composed the music for the play, eventually joining the cast to help boost ticket sales. But even the singer's involvement onstage was not enough to save the production. Poor sales during the holiday rush contributed to the show's demise, "The New York Times" reports."We have been bewildered and saddened by our inability to sustain an audience for this musical that we deeply love," the producers wrote in a statement. "There are no easy explanations."According to the "Times," the show cost $15 million to bring to Broadway and $625,000 to keep it going each week. Ticket sales were steady when the show opened in October, but they doubled last month when Sting joined the cast as the shipyard foreman. Most musicals were breaking records last week, a peak time for Broadway with tourists flooding the streets of New York for the holidays. "The Last Ship," on the other hand, underperformed.

  • Man Accused of Murdering Father in Maine Brings Up Slayer at Hearing, Ruled Not Competent to Stand Trial [WATCH]

A man charged with brutally murdering his father and cutting up his remains was recently ruled incompetent to stand trial in Maine. During a hearing yesterday, Jan. 5, Leroy Smith III told the judge that the band Slayer had once been present in 2011 when he had a gun pointed at his head. His statement had nothing to do with the May 2014 slaying and Smith was subsequently ruled unfit to stand trial, centralmaine.com reports.Smith described a bizarre scenario during his hearing despite the judge telling him that if he spoke he would be removed from the courtroom."With my case, they're telling me that my story is delusional grandiose of proceedings that happened, and they're not investigating it," he said."The fact of the matter [is that] in 2011 I had a gun pointed to my head and was sworn to keep secret of what I am. And they refused investigating any persons that are responsible. The whole entire music group Slayer was there. I was told then that what they did was too overboard. I sent them a message on Facebook and that Jeff Hanneman, the guitarist, takes his own life. He took his own life May 5 of 2013."Founding guitarist Hanneman died May 3, 2013, from liver failure.

  • Sony Unveils New ZX2 Walkman: Portable Music Player Will Sell for $1,120 This Spring

Sony recently introduced the latest incarnation of its portable music player, the Walkman, and it is a far cry from the 1979 original. The ZX2 Walkman plays tunes at a higher resolution than CDs, MP3s and streaming files. The only downside to casual music lovers is that the device costs $1,120, CNN Tech reports."The new Walkman ZX2 is a great example of the quality of our high-res audio offerings," Sony Electronics executive Mike Fasulo said. "This Walkman is tailored for outstanding sound, and every piece of material and component has been crafted to realize the ultimate high-res audio experience on the move."Features for the device include 128 GB of storage — about 2,000 songs — a micro SD card port, Wi-Fi capabilities and a 60-hour battery life. Oddly enough, it runs the Android platform Jelly Bean, which is a little outdated. The ZX2 will be available in the spring. It comes at an opportune time for the company — Apple discontinued its flagship product, the iPod Classic, last year. Nearly two decades ago, Apple introduced the iPod to the world and it dethroned the Walkman as the most popular portable music device.
  • Eric Church Loves Taylor Swift's '1989' Album: 'I Think the Record Is Brilliant'

You know what I love about it? It's creative. It's what she wanted to do."What she'll do next, I have no idea. And that's what I think is cool about it. I have no clue where she's heading. That's the exciting part. When you do something like that, it kind of shakes everything up so much — no pun intended — that you're intrigued. That's exciting to me."

Anyhow, my house burnt down/ I'm in Jersey now / You ain't care, you ain't even come around / I got locked up for selling quarter pounds down Bordentown / You could have looked out, you could have came and bailed me out."
