Artists like to release mixes and mixtape with the music that they have been listening to or tracks that have influenced them as a way to broaden their fan's music tastes and give outsiders a perspective into the creative mind of that artist beyond their live show and productions. Metallica's Controversial 'St. Anger' Rerecorded by Fans as Experiment; More Traditional Production, Trimmed Length, Better Product?
Let's get this out of the way: Your correspondent is a fan of St. Anger. Granted, that's relative term—Metallica hasn't put out a consistent, quality album since 1991 (aside from the excellent live set S&M—-but the more lo-fi, raw approach to the album helped me believe for a moment that the band hadn't become a shiny, arena act, even if it did headline arenas. A majority of the band's fans disagree with my analysis however, referring to St. Anger in the same light as Chinese Democracy, a massive disappointment. With that in mind, a trio of fans have gone about rerecording the entire album, produced in a way they feel will make it more appealing. -

Album Sales: Taylor Swift and '1989' Border 4 Million Overall, 'Guardians of The Galaxy Awesome Mix' Continues Solid Sales
Once again the actual album sales were a near clone to their cohort the Billboard 200 this week, with some subtle reorganizations going on. Taylor Swift was at the top with 1989 once again, selling 111,000 copies of her album. Just last week she had her first slot with less than 200,000 in sales for 2015's bestselling album and now it looks like she may drop below 100,000 next week. On the plus side, Swift is at 3.94 million total units moved for the album, meaning it will most likely reach quadruple-platinum in the next seven days. -
