    The New Pornographers added dates to their 2015 touring schedule recently. The band will play a handful of dates this summer in support of Brill Bruisers, their sixth studio effort. They'll stop by the Sasquatch! Music Festival in Quincy, Washington, on May 22 to kick off the tour, wrapping it up in July at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago.
  • Wayne Static Autopsy Reveals Prescription Drugs and Alcohol as Cause of Death

    Wayne Static mixed prescription medication with alcohol before he died in November, Blabbermouth reports. According to official documents filed by the investigating coroner, Static had oxycodone, Xanax and alcohol in his system. While his drinking had become a problem, his wife, Tera Wray, said that they had both given up illicit drugs in 2009.
  • Blink-182 Breakup: Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker Share First Picture Without Tom DeLonge

    Blink-182 shared a new photo on Instagram recently that features Alkaline Trio guitarist, Matt Skiba, in the place of Tom DeLonge. The band parted ways with DeLonge in January, setting in place some awkward events that included the guitarist denying his dismissal and members Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker bashing him. The new lineup is slated to perform at the Musink Festival later this month billed as "Blink-182 with Matt Skiba."

    Soundgarden released a career-spanning box set last year in the form of 'Echo of Miles: Scattered Tracks Across the Path.' Now the band is planning a deluxe, vinyl edition of the release, which will be available May 19. Guitarist Kim Thayil put together the box set that includes originals, covers and rare demos.

    Every so often, one of music's elder statesmen will chime in about how different things are nowadays -- remember when Gene Simmons pronounced rock 'n' roll dead? Roger Daltrey of The Who has been vocal about what is missing from today's music scene. Last year, the frontman said there were no movements happening in music. He offered more comments recently, saying that bands today lack anger in their material. "There's not enough anger out there in the music," he told 'The Standard.' "And there's not a lot of contemplation in the lyrics, it's all very sweet ... but that's the iPhone generation." The singer took aim at the music business as well, saying that it has been "stolen" by big business.
  • Madonna: Gay Rights More Advanced Than Women's Rights

    Madonna made some bold comments recently about the state of women's rights. The Queen of Pop said that progress for women has been much slower than that of African-Americans and the LGBT community during an interview with 'Out' magazine. The comments come on the heels of the release of her new album 'Rebel Heart.' "Gay rights are way more advanced than women's rights. People are a lot more open-minded to the gay community than they are to women, period," she said. "It's moved along for the gay community, for the African-American community, but women are still just trading on their ass. To me, the last great frontier is women."
  • Shabazz Palaces Announce World Tour, Will Make Stops at Bonnaroo, Primavera Sound

    Shabazz Palaces is hitting the road in April for a lengthy world tour. The group will make stops at Primavera Sound and Bonnaroo in addition to a few other festival dates. They will join TV on the Radio and Genius for two dates at the beginning of the trek and open for Flying Lotus for a string of shows overseas, 'Pitchfork' noted. The group is touring in support of its 2014 release 'Lese Majesty.' 'Rolling Stone' gave the album a positive review and 'Pitchfork' ranked it 8.2 out of 10.
  • Meat Loaf Plotting Fall Release for 'Braver Than We Are'

    'Braver Than We Are,' Meat Loaf's upcoming 13th studio album, marks a special reunion for the theatrical singer. Jim Steinman is producing the album, which is due out this fall. Steinman worked on Meat Loaf's 1977 classic 'Bat Out of Hell' and its 1993 follow-up, 'Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell.' The new album will be the team's first collaboration since the latter, 'Ultimate Classic Rock' noted.
  • Kanye West, Dr. Dre, Timbaland Producing The Game's 'The Documentary 2'

    The Game offered a few details about his upcoming album 'The Documentary 2' yesterday, March 11, on Power 106's 'The Cruz Show.' The rapper said he is about 90 percent done with the effort, which is due out sometime this summer. Producers for the album include Kanye West, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz as well as Dr. Dre, who The Game is waiting for to get back from vacation to finish the album.
  • Muse Announces Release Date for New Album 'Drones'

    Muse confirmed the release date for its new album 'Drones' recently. The English band's seventh album is due out June 9. Muse will share the LP's lead single "Psycho," later tonight, March 12, via YouTube. The song will be available for download as well, 'Rolling Stone' noted. They have also shared the tracklist for the '2nd Law' follow-up.

  • Sarah Jones: Coroner Releases Graphic Autopsy of 'Midnight Rider' Camera Assistant

    Georgia state officials recently released the autopsy of Sarah Jones, the camera assistant for the Gregg Allman biopic Midnight Rider who was killed last year while working on the movie. Jones was struck by a train while the crew was filming a dream sequence for the film in Wayne County. A judge found the film's director, Randall Miller, guilty of involuntary manslaughter in criminal trespass for not obtaining the proper clearances to shoot near the tracks.

    The trailer for the upcoming 'Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck' documentary offers a brief preview of what looks to be an extremely important rock 'n' roll film. The doc, the first made with the cooperation of the Cobain family, features previously unreleased music and artwork by the man who reluctantly gave a voice to an entire generation. Family, friends and bandmates like Nirvana's Krist Novoselic were interviewed for the film, directed by Brett Morgen.
