• Frankie Knuckles 'House Masters' Compilation to Be Released

    A posthumous CD compilation crafted by the godfather of house music, Frankie Knuckles, is being released by Defected Records with all proceeds of the sales going to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Frankie Knuckles Fund. The 'House Masters' compilation was originally started in February 2014, shortly before the Chicago DJ died. The project, which includes handpicked singles and remixes from Knuckles's career, was sidelined when the "Whistle Song" DJ died March 31, 2014.

    There seems to be a resurgence in independent record stores nowadays as chain retailers continue to fold. Tower Records was one of the biggest music chains around from 1960 to 2000, and many famous musicians have an attachment to the store. Actor Colin Hanks began working on a documentary about Tower Records in 2008, two years after it declared bankruptcy. The documentary 'All Things Must Pass' debuted at South by Southwest this week. The director talked about the film, which took so long to make because of funding issues, prior to a screening. He mentioned two big music names -- Elton John and Dave Grohl -- as supporters of the record store, 'Billboard' noted. Slash also appeared in the film.

  • Bonnaroo Will Announce Lineup Via Fans on Social Media Next Week

    Bonnaroo 2015 is only six months away, and while the lineup is usually announced in February, organizers will share some of the performers next week. The Bonnaroo Lineup Announcement Megathon will take place Jan. 13 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Fans will be able to call a phone number to receive updates, and then they can share the information on social media using the hashtag #Bonnaroo, "Consequence of Sound" notes. If you want to find out who will be at The Farm in June, call 1-844-ROO-2015 during the BLAM. Organizers will also share a preview of Skrillex's documentary of the festival's Superjam tradition. Big Gigantic, Cage the Elephant, A$AP Ferg and Robby Krieger of The Doors joined the EDM star for a massive concert. Tickets for the festival go on sale Jan. 17. The event runs from June 11 to 14. On Bonnaroo's Festival Outlook page, acts like Beck, Deadmau5 and Kendrick Lamar are rumored to appear at the festival. Houndmouth, Robert Plant and Trampled by Turtles are logical choices while Run the Jewels and iLoveMakonnen have been confirmed.

Unfortunately, the show's namesake died in 2012, but Ryan Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy have been carrying on the tradition ever since. This year will be bigger than ever, with more than five hours of music planned, featuring acts like Taylor Swift, One Direction and Elton John. The pair dished on what they are looking forward to the most tomorrow night, Dec. 31, during a press conference. "I think there are two incredible live moments that we're going to have here in New York. One is Taylor Swift celebrating the incredible year that she's had, live," Seacrest said, "Billboard" noted. "And then we're going out to Barclays Center [in Brooklyn] to Elton John, who will be standing by. This show has been going for decades, and this is the first time he's been on our show, so that's exciting for us." McCarthy added, "The fact that we've got so many artists this year makes it feel like it will be the best year yet. At rehearsals yesterday, the producers said, 'Without a doubt, this is our favorite show.'" Florida Georgia Line, Idina Menzel, MAGIC!, Iggy Azalea, Charli XCX, Meghan Trainor, Lady Antebellum and Gavin DeGraw are also set to perform.

The rock star shared some photos from the day on his new Instagram account. After signing some papers, John posted a picture of him and Furnish prior to the ceremony. "That's the legal bit done. Legislation finally took effect during March that made gay marriage legal in England and Wales.
