  • 8 Albums Named After The Artist's Home State

A few weeks ago, I wrote a list about albums named after the artist's hometown, such as Outkast's ATLiens or Bruce Springsteen's Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ. The eight artists listed here, however, took this one step further, by naming their albums after their entire home state.
  • 8 Classic Artists Whose Debut Albums Were False Starts

There are some legendary artists, such as Led Zeppelin, R.E.M., or Pink Floyd, who burst into the mainstream with fully formed, excellent debut albums. Other legendary artists, however, stumbled a bit on their full-length debuts, and didn't truly find their voices until their sophomore releases. Here are eight classic artists whose debut albums were false starts.

Bands break up all the time, but just because a group of musicians have decided not to work together anymore as a unit, it doesn't mean that none of the members will never work together again. Here are 10 examples of bands that were started with former bandmates.

  • Taylor Swift Calls Spotify "An Experiment" That Doesn't "Feel Right"

Taylor Swift's new album, '1989,' has famously become the first album in 2014 to go platinum, having sold over 1.2 million copies in its first week of release, and though the album certainly would have become a big seller no matter what, its stellar sales figures can be partially attributed to Swift's decision to pull all of her music from Spotify. In a new interview with Yahoo! Music, the 24-year-old singer explains her unusual decision, citing the uncertainty of the future of streaming, as well as Spotify's notoriously poor compensation of musicians.

  • The Velvet Underground Share Unheard Mix Of "I Can't Stand It" From Upcoming Reissue [LISTEN]

The 45th anniversary reissue of the Velvet Underground's self-titled third album is set for release on Nov. 24, but today one of the reissue's previously unheard mixes has surfaced, which you can check out below. "I Can't Stand It" was originally recorded in Oct. 1969 by the Velvets as part of an unreleased album, and though it was later remixed and included in the 1985 VU compilation and re-recorded for Lou Reed's debut solo album, this is the first time the song has been released in its original form. It's definitely one of the funkiest and most upbeat songs the band ever recorded.

  • One Direction Shares Folky New Track "Ready To Run" From Upcoming Album 'Four' [LISTEN]

The Mumford & Sons arena folk trend is a few years old at this point, but One Direction is still shooting for that epic sound in their new single “Ready To Run,” which you can check out below. With some acoustic guitar arpeggios, huge beats, and a healthy dose of “woah-oh!” chants, this definitely sounds like a pop anthem for 2014. Just for good measure, there's also some U2-inspired electric guitar in the choruses.
  • Earl Sweatshirt Shares Weird New Song "45" [LISTEN]

Odd Future member Earl Sweatshirt has shared a new track titled “45,” which you can check out below. The Alchemist-produced track is typical Earl, rhyming over a dark, grimy beat without any sort of hook or refrain. The track runs at an incredibly short 1:16, leading Consequence of Sound to speculate that this is just the first half of the actual song, though a more experimentally-minded rapper like Earl could easily be recording an entire album of brief songs like this, similar to Madvillainy.
  • Peter Gabriel, Serj Tankian Contribute to Gaza Benefit Album '2 Unite All'

Legendary singer-songwriter Peter Gabriel and System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian have never shied away from political statements in their music, so it should come as no surprise that both artists have contributed songes to a new benefit compilation album titled "2 Unite All," which goes toward funding humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza. According to radio.com, the album was produced by Project Peace on Earth and is currently available for purchase. "Helping to rebuild the lives of Palestinians in Gaza is a necessary and noble worldwide humanitarian prerogative that we must not shy away from," Tankian says about the album in a statement. For the album, Tankian contributed a song titled "Spinning Mysteries at the Sacred Groove," which features Police drummer Stewart Copeland.
